**Acquia Cloud Platform** and [**Cloud Classic**](/node/55808) do not currently allow the change of name for the **default** branch. A feature request has been made to add this functionality.  
  
If the **default** branch is named `master`, it can be renamed locally, but any new clones will still reference the `master` branch.
