Important

Managing team members, including adding users, removing users, and assigning roles is a fully self-service capability. For security and compliance reasons, Acquia Support cannot add, remove, or modify user accounts on your behalf. Organization owners and administrators must perform these actions through the instructions on this page. For more information, visit [Working with organization](/acquia-cloud-platform/working-organizations "Working with organizations").

You can invite users to be members of a [team](/acquia-cloud-platform/access/teams). To do so, you must have the _administer teams_ [permission](/acquia-cloud-platform/access/teams/permissions/default), which Cloud Platform grants to _Team leads_ by default. _Owners_ and _Administrators_ can invite members to any team in the [organization](/acquia-cloud-platform/access/teams/organizations).

Inviting a member to a team
---------------------------

To invite an existing Cloud Platform user to a [team](/acquia-cloud-platform/access/teams):

1. Ensure that the user you want to invite to your team has a Cloud Platform user account.
2. [Sign in to the Cloud Platform user interface](/node/55875) as a user with the _administer teams_ [permission](/acquia-cloud-platform/access/teams/permissions/default) and select **Manage** in the top menu.
3. Select your organization.
4. Click **Team Management**.
5. In **Members**, click **Invite member**.

    ![cloud-platform_adding-members-to-a-team.png](https://acquia.widen.net/content/57d85482-b706-449f-bd6b-d3f451ff7575/web/cloud-platform_adding-members-to-a-team.png)

6. If you are an _Owner_ or _Administrator_, select **Administrator** or **Team Member**, and click **Continue**.
7. Enter the email address of the user you want to add, and click **Continue**. To add multiple users, enter comma-separated email addresses.
8. (If you selected **Team Member** earlier) Select the team to which you want to add the user as a member, and click **Continue**.
9. (If you selected **Team Member** earlier) Select one or more roles to assign to the user on this team, and click **Continue**.

Note on Code Studio seats

If your organization uses Code Studio, new user invitations consume one seat from your license count. If you reach your limit, new invitations are blocked. For details on seat entitlements, visit [Code Studio product guide](/node/57244#services) and [Why can I not manage certain seats in Code Studio?](/acquia-cloud-platform/add-ons/code-studio/help/69186-why-can-i-not-manage-certain-seats-code-studio "Why can I not manage certain seats in Code Studio?")

10. Select **Invite**.

The system sends an email invite to the user. The user must accept the invitation.

As an alternative, you can invite a member to a team from the Organizations page as follows:

3. In the information card for an organization, click **Invite member** and follow the preceding procedure.

The **Members** section of the **Organizations** > **Team Management** page also displays the following information:

* _Pending invitations_: You can resend or cancel any pending invitations not yet accepted by the invited user.

Important

Email addresses for team member accounts shouldn’t have any kind of autoresponder enabled, or infinite ticketing loops can occur. For more information, see [Issues with autoresponders](/service-offerings/tickets#support-autoresponders).

### Responding to invitations

When you invite a user to join a team, the user will receive an email from `cloud.acquia.com`. The email has a link for accepting the invitation. Selecting the link opens the account sign-in page at `accounts.acquia.com`. If an invited user doesn’t already have an Acquia account, the user must set one up before trying to sign in.

An invited user may also need to complete the following tasks:

* Create a password complying with your organization’s [password strength requirements](../password-strength.html).
* Set up [two-step authentication](/acquia-cloud-platform/access/signin) for their Acquia account, if your organization requires it.

After [signing in to the Cloud Platform interface](/node/55875), the invited user can accept the invitation and join the team, with the roles and permissions given in the invitation.

Removing a member from a team
-----------------------------

To remove a member from a team:

1. [Sign in to the Cloud Platform user interface](/node/55875) as a user with the _Owner_ or _Administrator_ role.
2. Select your organization and select **Manage** in the top menu.
3. Select your organization.
4. Go to **Team Management** > **Members**.
5. On the line listing the member you want to remove, select **Remove**. Note that this option is available only for active members.
6. In the confirmation dialog box, select **Remove**.

Cloud Platform removes the team member from that team.

As an alternative, you can remove a member from one or more teams from the main **Organizations** page:

1. [Sign in to the Cloud Platform user interface](/node/55875) as a user with the _Owner_ or _Administrator_ role.
2. On the **Organizations** page, in the card for the organization, select **Remove member**.
3. Select the teams you want to remove the member from and select **Continue**.
4. In the confirmation dialog box, select **Remove**.

Note

Instead of removing a member from a team, you can change their role to one with lesser permissions. Select the **Edit role** to change a member’s role.

For more information about account security, see [Best practices for team member departures](/acquia-cloud-platform/access/teams/remove). For information about deleting a user account from the Acquia platform, see [GDPR Data Subject Rights requests](/service-offerings/delete).

Changing a team member’s roles
------------------------------

You assign one or more roles to a user when you [invite](#cloud-invite-member-team) them to a team in the organization. You can also later change the roles assigned to a team member.

To change a member’s role:

1. [Sign in to the Cloud Platform user interface](/node/55875).
2. Select **Manage** in the top menu.
3. Select your organization.
4. Go to **Team Management** > **Members**.
5. On the line listing the member whose roles you want to change, select **Edit roles**.
6. In the **Edit roles** dialog box, select the roles you want the team member to have, and select **Continue**.
7. In the confirmation dialog box, select **Save**.

Troubleshooting access issues in Code Studio
--------------------------------------------

If the issue persists after you review the preceding links, include the following diagnostic information when creating a Support ticket:

* **User email:** The exact email address of the affected user

* **Error message:** A screenshot or copy of the specific blocked message

* **Application UUID:** The unique ID of your application found in the URL of your Cloud Platform dashboard

**Issue**

**Cause**

**Resolution or next steps**

`User is blocked`

The user was removed from the Cloud Platform team, or the account access is pending. Access is inherited from Cloud Platform team membership.

Re-invite the user to the team. If recently added, ensure they have accepted the invitation email.

`Cannot merge code (Protected Branches)`

The user has the Developer role but attempts to merge to a protected branch like `main`.

An administrator must upgrade the user's role to Team Lead. For more information, visit [Managing users](/acquia-cloud-platform/add-ons/code-studio/managing-users "Managing users") and [GitLab’s Project member permissions.](https://docs.gitlab.com/user/permissions/)

`Cannot add user (Seat Limit Reached)`

You have exceeded the total number of Code Studio seats purchased in your contract.

Check your Subscription usage page. If 100%, you must remove an inactive user to free a seat or contact your account manager for more entitlements. For more information, visit [Assigning and revoking user seats](/acquia-cloud-platform/add-ons/code-studio/assigning-and-revoking-user-seats "Assigning and revoking user seats").
