When administrators prepare to delete a user with active portals in Acquia DAM, they must ensure a smooth transition of portal ownership to maintain uninterrupted access.

**User with Active Portals:**
-----------------------------

You will receive a notification which indicates that the user cannot be deleted due to active portals.

The system prevents the deletion in order to ensure portal continuity.

### **Ownership transfer before deletion:**

Before you can delete a user, you must first [transfer the portal ownership](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-transfer-ownership-portal "How do I Transfer Ownership of a Portal?") to another user.

1. Use the **Transfer Ownership feature** in the portal's Share menu:

2. Log in to **Digital Asset Managemen**t (DAM)

3. Navigate to the **Portals** application

4. Select the portal

5. Click the **ellipsis** menu

6. Choose **Share**

7. Select the **Transfer portal** option

8. Enter the new owner's name

9. Confirm the transfer

**After Deletion:**
-------------------

After users are deleted from the DAM, portals they created are no longer accessible by anyone.

Group User Deletion: If you delete a group of users with active portals, contact the DAM Customer Support team to transfer ownership of the portals to other users.

Note that you should always ensure proper ownership transfer before user deletion to maintain uninterrupted access to portals.
