[Conversion formats](What-are-conversion-formats) display when users with permission [download](How-do-I-download-assets) assets or [share](How-do-I-share-assets) them via email, from collection share pages, from portals, and in other locations.

Default conversion formats are included on your Acquia DAM when the site is created. Image, video, original format, and other formats, including compressed archives and InDesign files, are available.

Conversion formats can be added by requesting them from the DAM Customer Support team. You can edit conversion formats only after they have been added by the support team.

[Watermarks](/acquia-dam/can-watermarks-be-applied-assets "Can watermarks be applied to assets?") can be added to any conversion format. The conversion format watermark may be the same or unique to each conversion format.

Requesting conversion formats
-----------------------------

While the DAM comes with default conversion formats, additional custom formats can also be added. Allow 10 business days for our support team to set up formats.

When you need a new conversion format, please provide the following information:

1. The name you'd like for the conversion.
2. A helpful description about it for your users (optional).
3. The file format you'd like the output file in.
4. The resolution, or DPI, of the output file.
5. The width and height, in pixels, of the output file.
6. If the output image should have exact specified dimensions. Conversions generally scale the longer sides of the source image to the requested dimension for those sides, and the shorter sides scale to retain the original proportionality. To guarantee the output file meets specifications for width and height, there may be times where white padding needs to be added to the ends of the shorter-scaled sides or where a portion of the shorter side needs to be cropped.
7. Color profile used (RGB, CMYK, etc.).

Note that the above applies only to image conversion formats. For audio and video conversions, please contact the support team to learn about what's needed.

Once conversion formats are set up in your site, we ask that you test the conversions with your assets and confirm that they're working as intended for your use case.

### _Formatting examples_

For a conversion format where the output dimensions are set to 1,000 px wide by 700 px high, and you’re trying to use it with an image that’s 2,000 px wide by 1,000 px high, if you answer “No” to number 6 above, the final output file will be 1,000 px wide by 500 px high. That looks like this:

![Two blue rectangles display image dimensions: "Source image is 2000x1000" and "Final output image is 1000x500."](https://acquia.widen.net/content/1eaa058d-bd02-4604-ab50-90fce7bb3475/web/ka0Pb000000Dx8j00N6g00000WDN1a0EM6g000005Lvqi.png)

If you answer “Yes” to number 6, the image content itself will still scale to 1,000 x 500 so that it doesn’t get distorted, but we’ll add 100 px of white padding to both the top and bottom so that the canvas of the final image is the requested 1,000 x 700. That looks like this:

![Diagram showing a 2000x1000 source image resized to 1000x700, with 100px white canvas added above and below.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/da6ff498-a6ac-4443-a600-6f9250c031ed/web/ka0Pb000000Dx8j00N6g00000WDN1a0EM6g000005Lvqc.png)

Let’s use the same conversion (output of 1,000 x 700) with an asset that’s 2,000 px wide by 1,800 px high. If you answer "No" for number 6, the output file will be 1,000 x 900. That looks like this:

![Two blue rectangles labeled "Source image is 2000x1800" and "Final output image is 1000x900," illustrating image resizing.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/94050c06-010b-4d4c-bc2f-9344a06e2f72/web/ka0Pb000000Dx8j00N6g00000WDN1a0EM6g000005LvqW.png)

If, however, you indicate “Yes” for number 6, the image would first scale to 1,000 x 900, but the final output file would have 100 px cropped out of both the top and bottom in order to be exactly 1,000 x 700. That looks like this:

![Diagram showing a source image of 2000x1800 pixels cropped to a final output image of 1000x700 pixels, with 100 pixels cropped out.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/ff4b3b82-6753-4c5e-a78e-8ab1d89b2f19/web/ka0Pb000000Dx8j00N6g00000WDN1a0EM6g000005Lvqh.png)

### _Additional information about conversions_

Acquia cannot accommodate the following conversion format configurations:

* Configuration of conversions to stay within a specific file size threshold.
* Retention of transparent background for conversions in the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format, even if the source file has transparent background.
* This cannot be accommodated because the JPEG format does not support transparent background.
* Selection of any color besides white for the canvas, margin, or padding added to the final output file.
* Retention of animation for Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) assets used for conversions.
* Conversion of files to the Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, or Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) vector formats.

Edit conversion formats
