Upload profiles provide a flexible and organized way to [upload assets](https://docs.acquia.com/acquia-dam/how-do-i-upload-files) [](https://community.widen.com/collective/s/article/How-do-I-upload-assets)to Acquia DAM.

**Use upload profiles to:**

* Automatically place assets in specific asset groups
*   Set [release](https://docs.acquia.com/acquia-dam/how-do-i-release-and-unrelease-assets) and [expiration dates](https://docs.acquia.com/acquia-dam/what-are-expiration-dates)
*   Apply default [metadata](https://docs.acquia.com/acquia-dam/what-metadata)
*   [Archive assets](https://docs.acquia.com/acquia-dam/how-do-i-archive-assets) after upload
* Set version preferences for conflicting assets
* Assign assets to [asset groups](https://docs.acquia.com/acquia-dam/what-are-asset-groups-and-how-do-i-create-them), [categories](https://docs.acquia.com/acquia-dam/how-do-i-create-asset-categories), and [global collections](https://docs.acquia.com/acquia-dam/what-are-collections)

Upload profiles are essential for asset approval workflows.

**Asset approval workflow:**

To review assets before release:

* Direct uploaded assets to a pending asset group
* Leave the release date blank
* Set upload profile permissions for the relevant user [role](https://docs.acquia.com/acquia-dam/how-do-i-create-roles) such as contract photographers
* Receive [alerts and email notifications](https://docs.acquia.com/acquia-dam/admin-what-alerts-or-email-notifications-can-i-get) as reminders to review uploaded assets
* After you approve assets, move them to a designated asset group and release them

5.  Select Create.
6. On the permissions page, choose the appropriate permission for each role for the upload profile.

### Set release and expiration dates

When setting release and expiration dates, choose to release or expire assets on a specific date, in a number of days from the upload date, or release or expire them on upload.

### Set version preferences

When setting version preferences for conflicting uploads, choose to not auto version conflicting uploads, auto version only the files for conflicting uploads, or auto version files and group information when uploads conflict. If you auto version only the files for conflicting uploads, files will update, but the metadata on the assets in the DAM will not change. If you auto version the file and group information when uploads conflict, files and any mapped metadata will be updated in the DAM.

### Add assets to asset groups, categories, and collections

Assets uploaded to an upload profile must be assigned to at least one asset group. They can also optionally be assigned to as many categories and global collections as you'd like. Simply check next to the asset groups, categories, and collections when creating and editing upload profiles to ensure assets are included in the selected upload profile.

AI processing controls
----------------------

Administrators control which AI features process assets uploaded through each profile within the Post upload processing section.

**Important notes**

* Settings apply only to future uploads and new asset versions.
* Existing AI-processed assets retain their data.
* Manual processing is available through Asset Digest.
* New asset versions use the current upload profile settings.

**Common use cases**

* Create profiles for privacy-sensitive content.
* Set up test environments for AI features.
* Limit AI processing to specific upload profiles to conserve resources.
