Table of contents will be added

To delete a metadata type, you will need to submit a request to the DAM Customer Support team. Before doing so, complete these steps to make sure the metadata type is no longer used in the Acquia DAM.

Check for assets assigned to the metadata type
-----------------------------------------------

1. Complete an [Advanced Search](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-perform-advanced-search "https://community.acquia.com/acquiadam/s/article/How-do-I-perform-an-advanced-search") on the Metadata Type that you want to remove to find any assets that still have the metadata type assigned and batch edit to change that Metadata Type.

2. If the Archived Assets feature is on and assets are archived, these same steps must be completed using an [Archived Asset Search](/acquia-dam/whats-archived-asset-search "https://community.acquia.com/acquiadam/s/article/Whats-the-archived-asset-search")

3. If assets are in a [conflicted state](/acquia-dam/what-are-conflicted-assets "https://community.acquia.com/acquiadam/s/article/What-are-conflicted-assets"), they must be resolved so no conflicts exist with the Metadata Type assigned at upload

4. Any [lost assets](/acquia-dam/what-asset-related-tasks-are-admin-dashboard "https://community.acquia.com/acquiadam/s/article/What-asset-related-tasks-are-on-the-Admin-Dashboard#:~:text=may%20be%20tracked.-,Lost%20assets,-Assets%20must%20be") must be permanently deleted

5. Any [Pending Delete](/acquia-dam/what-are-pending-delete-assets "https://community.acquia.com/acquiadam/s/article/What-are-pending-delete-assets") assets assigned to the metadata type to remove need to be either Restored and changed, or permanently deleted

6. Go through [Upload Profiles](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-create-upload-profiles "https://community.acquia.com/acquiadam/s/article/How-do-I-create-upload-profiles"), locate any usage of Metadata Type to remove and change it to another Metadata Type

7. In the Metadata Type to be removed, remove all associated metadata fields

Update upload profiles
----------------------

Review your [Upload Profiles](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-create-upload-profiles "https://community.acquia.com/acquiadam/s/article/How-do-I-create-upload-profiles"), locate any usage of the metadata type you plan to remove, and change it to another metadata type.

Remove associated metadata fields
----------------------------------

[Remove any metadata fields](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-create-edit-or-remove-metadata-fields "How do I create, edit, or remove metadata fields?") that are associated with only this metadata type.
