Table of contents will be added

Once files are uploaded to Acquia DAM, they can be downloaded individually or in bulk by DAM users to a chosen location, such as a desktop or downloads folder. If you have the Order Active Assets [permission](/acquia-dam/what-does-each-permission-mean "What does each permission mean?"), you can download assets from DAM. There is no cost for downloading assets.

Note

The instructions on how to [download assets from portals](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-download-assets-portal "How do I download assets from a portal?") and [Entries](/acquia-dam/can-i-download-assets-directly-entries "Can I download assets directly from Entries?") differ from those for downloading in the Assets app.

Download multiple assets

You can download multiple assets in the classic search experience only. First, perform a search for assets. If you are using [redesigned search](/acquia-dam/what-redesigned-asset-search-experience "What is the redesigned asset search experience?"), click **View in classic search**.

Select the assets you want. In the Selection panel, click the Download icon.

![Toolbar with search bar, notification bell, user icon, and download button. "2 selected" is displayed next to the download button.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/udr6wyxj7k/web/ka0Pb0000009YSH00N6g00000WDN1a0EMPb000002uPVf.png?v=1cbad0f8-2a5c-4ae8-a9ac-2af8c8a5e527)

Select [conversion formats](/acquia-dam/what-are-conversion-formats "What are conversion formats?") from the list of available formats. Depending on the file types you've selected, your permissions, and the conversion formats available on your site, you'll see various formats to download.

![Conversion selection interface with options for image and video formats. Two selected items listed: a JPG and an MP4 file.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/zk21wiijdt/web/ka0Pb0000009YSH00N6g00000WDN1a0EMPb000002uPkA.png?v=e1c4dfd5-791d-4c32-8792-5dc297bea16e)

This creates an order of assets that displays on the [order pickup page](/acquia-dam/what-will-i-see-order-pickup-page "What will I see on the order pickup page?"). There, you can download your assets directly to your desktop. Up to 500 assets can be downloaded or [ordered](/acquia-dam/whats-order "What's an order?") at once.

After assets are downloaded, they're sent to a processor to be converted to selected formats. Processing for certain image file types can take up to several minutes. Video processing time depends on file size, resolution, and the number of frames in the video.

A note indicating the file will take time to process displays for files that require additional time. Wait for the files to process or go to the Activity dropdown, click **Shares**, and view the Orders table to download files at a later time.

Downloading multiple assets from the new search experience
----------------------------------------------------------

If your site has the redesigned search experience enabled, you can download assets in bulk directly from new search results or the asset digest.

1. Use the checkboxes to select one or more assets.
2. When you have at least one downloadable asset selected, the Download button appears in the bulk action bar. Click Download.
3. If your site has Intended Use within site enabled, the intended use screen displays. Any applicable EULA for Internal (logged-in) downloading and sharing also displays.
4. Select your formats. You will see your selected assets along with available format options:
    * Original: The original uploaded file.
    * Pre-configured formats: Custom conversions configured by your administrator. Examples include specific image dimensions and video formats.
5. Selected formats apply only to relevant asset types. For example, an image conversion does not apply to a video asset. Each asset thumbnail displays a badge that indicates how many formats are applied. For example, the badge may display "1 format applied" or "0 formats applied."
6. Click Submit order. If any assets have no formats applied, the system displays a warning message. You can still proceed. Assets with no formats applied are excluded from the order.
7. The system displays the order pickup page. After processing is complete, click Download all to get a zip file, or download individual files. The zip file contains a folder for each format.
8. You will receive an email when your order is ready, with a link to the order pickup page.

Note

This experience does not currently support assets that require order approval. If any of your selected assets require approval, they are excluded from the order with a message. To download assets requiring approval, use the legacy bulk download experience. Support for order approval in the new experience is planned for a future release.

Mixed permissions
-----------------

If you select a mix of assets with different permission levels, such as some you can download, some requiring approval, and some you only have view access to, only the downloadable assets appear in the format selection screen. A message indicates that some assets from your selection cannot be included.

Download a single asset
-----------------------

You can do this in several places in the DAM: Asset Digest, Asset Details, classic and redesigned search results, and [Quick View](/acquia-dam/what-details-can-i-see-quick-view "What details can I see in Quick View?").

**In Asset Digest and redesigned search**
In Asset Digest or redesigned search results, below the asset thumbnail, click **Download**. You have three options for downloads.

*   Original format
*   Web-friendly format
*   Pre-configured format

![A bicycle on a grassy hill overlooking a scenic valley with mountains in the background under a clear blue sky.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/hjkqvmccgz/web/ka0Pb0000009YSH00N6g00000WDN1a0EMPb0000080i4U.png?v=06a955e7-b4dc-4566-8b6c-371fbab57590)

**Original format.** This option will appear for all files and cannot be disabled. When you select **Download original asset**, your download starts immediately. It will include any metadata the file had when it was uploaded into Acquia DAM.

**Web-friendly format.** This option appears for JPG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, PSD, AI, and EPS file types, but not for SVG. It cannot be disabled. Select **Customize download**. For this option, you can [crop the asset](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-crop-asset "How do I crop an asset?") if you have cropping enabled on your site. Under Output, set the height and width dimensions in pixels. The web-friendly file defaults to the size of the original file, unless it is larger than the maximum size of 5,280 pixels. When you adjust the width or height, the dimensions will remain constrained to the aspect ratio selected if you have crop turned on or the original file dimensions if it’s turned off.

![A bicycle on a grassy path with a mountainous landscape and lake in the background, under a cloudy sky.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/scx34409vb/web/ka0Pb0000009YSH00N6g00000WDN1a0EMPb0000080kCj.png?v=9ebfffbd-4464-4951-ba96-77ec8aac3789)

Customize the file format. GIF, JPG, PNG, and WebP formats are available for download for original file types of JPG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, PSD, AI, or EPS. Note that downloads are not available in TIFF format for Photoshop file assets that are greater than 1.5 GB in size. For JPGs, you can adjust the image quality and the resolution as either 72 or 300 DPI for your download. When finished, click **Download**.

If [embedded metadata](/acquia-dam/can-metadata-be-embedded-when-assets-are-downloaded "Can metadata be embedded when assets are downloaded?") is mapped to the asset and the Embed Metadata When Downloading feature is enabled, it can be downloaded with web-friendly formats. Only embedded metadata that’s mapped, not metadata that was included when the original file was uploaded, will download.

**Pre-configured formats.** These are conversion formats selected by admins that are available to download. If you have permission to view a format, you can download its pre-configured format.

Due to their size, pre-configured formats can take longer to process. After you select a format, rather than wait, continue with other tasks and you’ll receive an email with a link to the file when it’s ready to download.

**In Asset Details, classic search, and Quick View**
In the Asset Details page, classic search results, or Quick View, click **Download** below the asset thumbnail.

![Download options panel over a bird photo, offering various file formats like JPEG, PNG, and TIFF, with download and cancel buttons.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/kst2ltphex/web/ka0Pb0000009YSH00N6g00000WDN1a0EMPb000002uUQT.png?v=c7574787-e826-45ef-86bb-c9e3699ae8e0)

Select the original file or a [conversation format](/acquia-dam/what-are-conversion-formats "What are conversion formats?") for the downloaded asset and it will download immediately to your desktop.

EULAS and intended use
----------------------

When you download assets, you may be required to select an [intended use](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-collect-intended-use "How do I collect intended use?") or agree to the [end-user license agreement](/acquia-dam/can-eulas-be-used-my-site "Can EULAs be used on my site?") (EULA). If you're not logged into the Acquia DAM, you may be required to enter your email address and select the intended use for the downloaded assets.

See assets you have downloaded
------------------------------

You can see assets you've downloaded on the [Shares page](/acquia-dam/what-will-i-see-shares-page "What will I see on the Shares page?"), which can be accessed from the Activity menu. A list of orders that have been placed, including those you've placed, along with the sender, recipient, date ordered, number of assets in the order, and the order status will display in the Orders table. To see [only orders you've placed](/acquia-dam/how-can-i-see-only-my-orders "How can I see only my orders?"), click My Orders.

For orders others have placed or those you've placed, click an order number or **View Order** to see assets that were ordered. Click **View Assets** to re-order assets from the order.

Downloads requiring approval
----------------------------

Certain assets may [require approval](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-approve-if-assets-should-be-downloaded "How do I approve if assets should be downloaded?") before they're downloaded. If you download multiple assets and even one asset in that group requires approval, the entire order needs to be approved before assets are downloaded. When that's the case, we recommend downloading assets that don't require approval separately from the ones that do. You may see a flag or other indicator on assets that require download approval.

An approver will either approve or deny the download. If the approver denies the download, they may indicate a reason for denial.
