There are two ways to share a portal. From the Portals dashboard, select the more actions button and click **Share**.

![Share a portal from the Options menu on the Portals dashboard.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/6a9e6053-59fd-478d-a009-c00c256a1245/web/ka0Pb0000006vmn00N6g00000WDN1a0EM6g000005Lvov.png)

From within the Live Editor, click **Share**.

You can share your portal by copying and pasting the [direct link](Whats-a-direct-link) or embed code.

Security
When sharing a portal, choose a security setting to determine who will have access and can view assets within that portal. Note that [downloading is allowed](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-allow-downloads-or-shares-portal "How do I allow downloads or shares from a portal?") from individual asset section settings, not overall security settings. You can select a date the portal will [expire](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-expire-portal "How do I expire a portal?") or leave it blank, meaning the portal will never expire.

There are three levels of security for portals:

*   Public
*   Require an access code
*   Require a login

![share settings modal with three security setting options shown](https://acquia.widen.net/content/07af89f0-12ab-45f5-8b4a-b4145c243bf9/web/ka0Pb0000006vmn00N6g00000WDN1a0EM6g000005Lvot.png)

Public

Selecting public means that anyone with a link to the portal can view it, even if they're not Acquia DAM users. Select this option for portals that are embedded into webpages so that they can be seen by anyone who accesses the page.

It's important to note that public portals take on the permissions of the person who created it, in some circumstances. For example, if a portals creator has a role that requires admin approval for original format downloads, then public portals they create won't include the original format option in the download modal.

### _Require an access code_

Portals that require an access code are private but can be accessed by anyone with the code, even if they're not DAM users. Access codes must be at least six characters and can include special characters.

![If you select to use an access code for the portal, enter an access code.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/205e857f-272e-4667-84fc-238ee9c6faba/web/ka0Pb0000006vmn00N6g00000WDN1a0EM6g000005Lvoq.png)

### _Require a login_

Portals that require a login are also private and intended for users of the DAM. To require a login means that anyone who receives a link to the portal will need to log in with their DAM username and password.

There are two options when you require a login for a portal: limited and extended. By default, Limited is selected. With that option, a user's permissions from the DAM control what they can see and do in a portal. If a user doesn't have permission to interact with assets in the DAM, they won't have permission to interact with the same assets included in a portal.

With Extended, users can interact with assets in a portal even if they don't have permission to interact with those same assets in the DAM. This is useful when there may be a few thousand assets with a particular security setting in the DAM, but a portal creator needs an exception made for a subset of those assets that may be in the portal.

Invite others
-------------

You can also invite one person or a group of people to the portal when you're sharing it. Enter names or email addresses to invite people to a portal, then choose to allow them to view or edit the portal. Viewing allows them only to see assets. Editing allows them to [add sections](What-are-sections), change the [banner image](How-do-I-add-a-banner-to-a-portal) or background color, update descriptive text, [enable searching](How-do-I-let-others-search-for-assets-in-a-portal), [allow downloading](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-allow-downloads-or-shares-portal "How do I allow downloads or shares from a portal?"), [change how many assets display](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-change-how-many-assets-display-portal "How do I change how many assets display in a portal?") on a page, and delete sections.

Enter a personalized message if you'd like, then click Invite when you're ready to share! They'll receive an email to view the portal.

![Enter names of people to invite to your portal, choose if they can view or edit, and send them a personalized message.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/5a1f7d3f-34f8-4c88-bc91-49229287fa22/web/ka0Pb0000006vmn00N6g00000WDN1a0EM6g000005Lvou.png)

Manage people
-------------

For a portal you've previously shared, you'll see a list of people you've shared it with and the role (edit, view) each person has in the portal. Remove people from editing or viewing a portal, as needed.

![When sharing, see who can view and edit a portal in the Manage People section.](https://acquia.widen.net/content/423ebc0a-5ea3-463b-84b8-f486c150ffdc/web/ka0Pb0000006vmn00N6g00000WDN1a0EM6g000005Lvor.png)

Note that when you remove someone from viewing a portal, they will no longer see and access it on their Portals dashboard. If they have bookmarked the portal's URL, they will still be able to view the portal.
