You can receive alerts and/or email notifications when new assets you have [permission](What-are-asset-group-permissions) to view are added to the site, [exports](Where-can-I-export-from-in-the-Acquia-DAM) are pending download, for upcoming password and order expirations, and when you have new [dashboard messages](How-do-I-create-Dashboard-messages) from your Acquia DAM admin.  
  
If you're a DAM admin, you can choose to receive your own [alerts and emails](/acquia-dam/admin-what-alerts-or-email-notifications-can-i-get "As an admin, what alerts or email notifications can I get?").  
  
A list with the type and number of alerts displays from the bell icon by your user profile. Select the alert type to see more about the activity.

If you prefer to get email notifications, you can choose for emails to be sent when changes or updates are made to assets. Emails include a message about the purpose of the notification and a link that takes you to the appropriate page in the DAM.  
  
Note that when you read notifications within your site, you will not receive email notifications for those assets.

Customize notification preferences
----------------------------------

Choose which notifications you receive and how you receive them from your user settings in your user profile.

General notifications
---------------------

Choose to receive emails, alerts, or both for assets and exports under General Notifications Preferences.

### _Watched asset notifications_

When you select the eye icon for an asset in [search results](/acquia-dam/what-will-i-see-search-results "What will I see in search results?"), [Quick View](What-details-can-I-see-in-Quick-View), or on the [Asset Details page](/acquia-dam/where-can-i-see-asset-details "Where can I see asset details?"), you are watching the asset. Alerts for watched assets display when those assets are updated, expire, or metadata is changed.  
  
Watch asset notifications are:

*   Track Updated Assets: There's a new [version](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-create-asset-versions "How do I create asset versions?") for assets you're watching or when a new asset has replaced an existing asset (that is, when [conflicting assets](What-are-conflicted-assets) are resolved).
*   Track Expiring Assets: Assets you're watching will [expire](What-are-expiring-assets) within seven days.
*   Track Updated Metadata: Metadata has been changed for assets you're watching.

### _DAM notifications_

For these notifications, you're notified when assets are uploaded, [comments](Tell-me-more-about-comments) are shared, and when public comments are made.  
  
DAM notifications are:

*   Track New Assets: New assets you have permission to view have been released after upload. To receive this notification, you'll need the Release Assets [permission](What-does-each-permission-mean) enabled by your admin for each asset group in which you can view assets.
*   Track New Comments Shared With Me: Someone has shared a new comment with you.
*   Track New Public Comments: A new public comment is added.

### _Export notification_

Depending on the report's size, exports of data may take several minutes to be created. With export-related task notifications, you can be notified when your export is ready for download.  
  
The export notification is:

*   Track Exports to Download: An export is available for download.
