Insights is an app in Acquia DAM (Widen) that provides valuable information on the state of your DAM site and the assets in it, helping you to make informed decisions about those assets. The app is connected to a powerful data pipeline, which events on your site feed. Data allows you to analyze the performance of assets, including the extent to which others engage with them, track the types of assets that are most used, and compare asset use from brand to brand.

In Insights, you can create customized [reports](/acquia-dam/what-are-reports-insights-app "What are reports in the Insights app?"), then further customize them by selecting from multiple chart types, filtering, and grouping options. You can also export the report data into a CSV format for easy manipulation.

You must enable the Insights Application feature to access site and engagement data. Contact the DAM Customer Support team to enable or disable the feature.

### Types of insights

There are two types of insights: site data and engagement data. Site data is data about elements that exist on the site, such as the total number of assets, the total number of users, and the total site storage. You can use site data to get intelligence about how a site is growing.

Totals for site data are not time sensitive, so you will see the same data regardless of time zone. Time zone settings are located in your user profile.

Engagement data is data about downloads, logins, portal page views, searches performed, shares, social shares, uploads, and views of assets. It is data that a specific event within or outside of the DAM triggers. A user must initiate an event. You can use engagement data to track how assets are used or repurposed across the network.

The system records engagement data when an event occurs and includes detailed data about your environment and location. Because the data is dependent on time, it is sensitive to your time zone. You can adjust data based on your time zone.

### Site and engagement data descriptions

These are the definitions for site and engagement data:

* **Assets:** Number of assets on the site, including released, unreleased, archived, expired, pending delete, and deleted assets

* **Storage:** Total site storage for active assets, assets pending deletion, and archived assets

* **Users:** Number of active user accounts on the site

* **Downloads:** Number of downloads from search results, Quick View, the Asset Details and Digest pages, file sharing tools, embed codes, orders, portals, collections, the mobile app, and the API

* **Logins:** Number of logins by all registered site users

* **Portal Page Views:** Number of times users have viewed a portal page. You can filter this data by date range and geographic location. Use this data to identify which portals drive the most engagement across regions and campaigns.

* **Searches:** Number of searches by users, including search terms and number of results

* **Shares:** Number of shares of assets from orders and collections

* **Social shares:** Number of assets published to YouTube

* **Uploads:** Number of assets uploaded directly to the site via FTP or from file sharing tools

* **Views:** Number of times assets are viewed from search results, share links or embed codes, Quick View, the Asset Details and Digest page, collection share pages, portals, and the mobile app

### Insights vs. Google Analytics

To get a full picture of site use, you can use data from [Google Analytics](/acquia-dam/how-do-i-access-google-analytics "How do I access Google Analytics?") in combination with site and engagement data obtained using Insights. Google Analytics provides in-depth data that would be expected for any website: page views, user demographics, browser language, and commonly entered search terms. User demographics include age, gender, interests, and affinity.

Insights reports on the state of your DAM site and the assets within it. It provides site data and user engagement data. Site data includes total asset storage and number of assets. User engagement data includes number of logins and the number of times an asset was viewed or shared.

Use Google Analytics and Insights data together to get the fullest picture of site use.

You can also use Google Analytics to see the number of portal views within a certain timeframe, identify the most visited portals, retrieve data on a specific portal, or see how users most often access portals.
