Before setting up multilingual content, you must configure the regional settings for your site:

* **Regional Settings**: Time zone and locale preferences.

    * Match your primary audience location.

    * Consider content date/time display needs.

* **Languages**: Languages in which site content can be displayed.

    * Combine language detection methods for optimal user experience.

Order of language detection methods for content: URL (path prefixes or domains), Session, User preferences, Browser settings, and Default language

* **Content Language and Translation**: Apply translation to content types and fields.

    * Ensure consistent language support across all site elements, including menus, labels, and error messages.

Configuring regional settings
-----------------------------

Use the following steps to configure regional settings for your site:

1. [Access your site](/node/69836#access-a-site).
2. In the left sidebar, click **Configuration** > **Regional and language** \> **Regional settings**.
3. Configure the default country, first day of the week, and default time zone.
4. Click **Save configuration**.

These regional settings provide the foundation for language-specific date, time, and number formatting.
