Metrics is a robust analytics reporting tool of Customer Data Platform (CDP). You can use Metrics to generate individual reports called Looks, create visualizations, and build dashboards. You can run these features ad hoc, save them in folders for later access, and schedule them for email delivery on a set basis.

Metrics is built on the industry-leading Business intelligence (BI) and Analytics platform called [Looker](https://looker.com/).

Capabilities
------------

The following are the capabilities of Metrics:

* **Aggregated data:** Provides a summarized view derived from your aggregated data model. It organizes data in filterable tables. You can drag and drop filters based on the dimension and measure tables to customize reports and dashboards for the data models.

* **Drag and drop filters:** Allows you to easily select and apply multiple dimension or measure filters from the available tables.

* **Visualization:** Supports chart types such as bar charts, line charts, and pie charts to effectively communicate data interpretations.

Filters
-------

The following are the types of filters:

Filters

Description

**+Filters**

Select this option to add a filter within or outside a group.

**+New group**

Select this option to create a [group](https://cloud.google.com/looker/docs/and-or-filters-in-explores#filter_groups "https://cloud.google.com/looker/docs/and-or-filters-in-explores#filter_groups") of filters.

**+Custom expression**

Select this option to manually create a custom expression using [Lexp](https://cloud.google.com/looker/docs/creating-looker-expressions).

Data exploration
----------------

The process of data exploration starts with building a report based on the insight, followed by adding visualization to the results of the report.

To build a report, you need the following elements:

* **Dimensions**: A dimension is the way to group or categorize the data that you are exploring. For example, dates, customer segments, product categories, or states. Dates can be buckets of weeks, months, or years.
* **Measures**: A measure is the numerical value or information about the bucket of data that you want to analyze. Measures are values that are summed, averaged, or counted. For example, total revenue, order count, and buyer count.

Important considerations
------------------------

* Certain versions of Looker have constraints and are incompatible. Currently, CDP is using Looker version [24.2](https://cloud.google.com/looker/docs/2402/intro).
