Introduction
------------

This document provides information and instructions for the first steps to take with a new Web Governance account.

Add your domains
----------------

Sign in and add all of your domains. Remember that domains with the same name that end in ".com" and ".eu" are two different domains.

For instructions, read [Add, edit, or remove a domain](/node/58451).

Set up scan exclusions
----------------------

Use scan exclusions to instruct the crawler to ignore specific content.

For instructions, read [Scan exclusions](/web-governance/scan-exclusions-0 "Scan exclusions").

Add users
---------

Next, identify your required user roles and add users. The platform allows unlimited users. Choose users to receive specific reports and set up their access with view or edit permissions.

For instructions, read:

*   [User roles](/node/58531)
* [Add, edit, or remove users](/node/58526)

Add the script
--------------

The script is not required for basic access.

1. The following advanced Web Governance modules require the script if they are included in your subscription, and they must be configured before you add the script:
    *   PageAsssist: Read [PageAssist setup](/node/81741).
    *   PageCorrect: Read [PageCorrrect setup](/node/60041).
    *   Heatmaps: Read H[eatmaps setup](/node/58936).
    * Consent manager: Read [Consent manager setup](/node/81751).
    *   Statistics: Read [Statistics setup](/node/60241).
2. Configure and add the script. For instructions, read [How to add the script](/node/60216).

Create groups
-------------

A domain group is a subset of pages on a domain that can be defined by the user. Domain groups can be defined based on different rules, for example, page title, URL, and metadata. You can then assign users with different permissions for each domain group. For instructions, read [How to create and configure a domain group](/node/60226).

Assign users to groups
----------------------

Next, assign users to the groups.

For instructions, read [How to create and configure a domain group](/node/60226).

Web Governance Browser Extension (optional)
-------------------------------------------

Let your team know about the web browser extension. The browser extension is not required, however it is a very useful tool for your team to use when they start to identify and correct website content issues.

For instructions, visit [How to use the Web Governance Browser Extension](/node/60251).

Configure the remaining modules
-------------------------------

For instructions on how to configure each module, visit the [Admin resources](/node/58426) document collection.

Schedule the scan
-----------------

For instructions on how to set up an automatic scan schedule, read [How to schedule a recurring scan](/node/99341).

Train your users
----------------

It is important to let your team know what Web Governance is and how they can perform their tasks more easily. Acquia provides a wide selection of webinars, courses, and step-by-step documentation.

For more information about the Web Governance product and scope, read the [Web Governance](/node/55825) [product guide](/node/55825).
