Acquia free subscriptions

An Acquia free subscription gives you access to Acquia Insight, Acquia Cloud, and Acquia Search. Since it's free, it is subject to some feature limitations. You can remove these feature limitations by upgrading to a paid subscription. Compare what you get with a free or paid Acquia subscription:

Free Paid
Acquia Insight provides many, but not all, available alerts and more limited website analysis. Insight provides the full range of available alerts and website analysis.
SEO Grader not available. Use SEO Grader to improve search rankings, increase organic search traffic and maximize SEO quality of your Drupal website.
Support is available through the Acquia Forums only. Support available from the Acquia Support team, with different levels of support available.
Add-on services not available through your Acquia subscription. You get access to a dozen add-on services from Acquia and our partners, including testing, training, website optimization, and more.
Acquia Search is limited to no more than 25,000 search queries per year and your search index is limited to no more than 5,000 documents. Depending on your subscription level, you may serve from 50,000 to 10 million search queries per year, and your search index may include up to 250,000 documents.
Includes the Free level of Acquia's Mollom spam and content monitoring service. Includes the Developer level of Acquia's Mollom spam and content monitoring service.

Acquia Cloud Free subscriptions

If you have a free Acquia subscription, your use of Acquia Cloud is subject to some feature limitations. You can remove these feature limitations by upgrading to a paid subscription. In addition to the limitations listed for Acquia free subscriptions, compare what you get with free or paid Acquia Cloud:

No custom domain names. You can assign custom domain names to your environments. Learn more.
Server instances have limited CPU and disk storage. Your website's codebase, database, and file system are each limited to 500 MB of disk storage. See Managing disk storage for Acquia Cloud Free for information about how to work within the storage limit. Depending on your subscription level, shared or dedicated servers with a wide range of CPU, memory, and storage capacities are available. Learn more.
No support for Memcached, a general-purpose memory cache server daemon. Improve website performance using Memcached, which moves Drupal's standard caches out of the database into memory and caches the results of other expensive database operations.
You cannot send email from Acquia Cloud Free websites. Your websites can send limited outgoing emails such as Drupal registration confirmation emails and node subscription emails. You cannot send mass emails such as marketing messages or newsletters. You should use external email services for mass mailings. Learn more.
You cannot use HTTPS to serve your websites. You can set up your website to use HTTPS. Learn more.
You must use Git to manage your code repository. You can use either Git or SVN to manage your code repository and can migrate between SVN and Git. Use of Git is recommended. Learn more.
Your website is available as long as you're actively developing it. See Activity requirement for details. Your website is available as long as you pay for it.

Note that the limitations on your Acquia Cloud Free subscription apply to that subscription, even if you also have a paid Acquia subscription. For example, you cannot use for your Acquia Cloud Free subscription support tickets you may have from a paid subscription.

Activity requirement for free subscriptions

To keep your Acquia Cloud Free website, you must be actively developing it. A subscription is inactive if, in a 60 day period, there have been no code commits. At 30 days and 45 days of inactivity, Acquia will email the site owner to remind them to continue to develop their website to ensure that the Acquia Cloud Free website remains available. If a website is inactive for 60 days, the website is archived as a site archive file, and is then removed from Acquia Cloud.

If you're a site owner, be sure to check your spam folder for website inactivity emails from Acquia.
