On 22 December 2022, Drupal.org announced that support for all applications running Drupal 9.x will end 1 November 2023. In concurrence, Acquia will also end support for applications running Drupal 9.x on 1 November 2023.
After 1 November 2023, there will be no new projects, bug fixes for existing projects, or documentation for Drupal 9.x from the Drupal community. Additionally, the Drupal.org security team will not provide Security Advisories for Drupal 9.x after that date. You should consider Drupal 9.x an insecure application after 1 November 2023.
Q: Is there any action required on my part?
Yes. If your application is currently using Drupal 9.x, you will need to take immediate steps to update your application by 1 November 2023. While your application will continue to function beyond 1 November 2023, every day that your application is on Drupal 9.x past 1 November 2023, you risk the security of your files and data and that of your customers.
Q: What is the deadline for this upgrade?
Acquia cannot guarantee Drupal 9.x compatibility with Acquia’s Cloud Platform after 1 November 2023. Drupal 9.x core, contributed, and custom modules may have dependencies on technology stack components that could be upgraded or removed to maintain Acquia’s platform security and compliance certifications. Acquia’s compatibility testing will be limited to Drupal 10.x and above, so such platform changes may impact Drupal 9.x application functionality or availability. In such cases, upgrading your application to Drupal 10.x may be your only available remedy.
Acquia will continue to assist customers with Drupal 9.x applications as part of our standard Support services until 1 November 2023. This includes providing diagnostic support for Drupal Application issues and working to ensure that Acquia Cloud supports Drupal 9.x applications. After 1 November 2023, Acquia will no longer provide support services for Drupal 9.x applications.
|
Note: Acquia is part of a group of vendors who are committed to provide D7.x extended support, which is slated to run until November 2025. |
We encourage all of our customers to upgrade Drupal 9.x applications to Drupal 10.x well before Drupal 9’s end of life date to avoid unexpected complications.
Q: Do you have any documentation to assist me with my upgrade?
For additional resources to assist with your upgrade, please see our blog posts, "What to do about Drupal 9's end of life in November 2023"
Q: Will there be any downtime for my non-production environments or production application?
This will depend on your development approach to upgrading your application. With careful planning and testing, you should be able to avoid any downtime for your production application.
Q: Can I migrate my Drupal 8.x application directly to Drupal 10.x?
If your application is still running an 8.x version of Drupal, you will first need to update to a 9.4 or higher version of Drupal 9.x before upgrading to Drupal 10.x. For additional resources to assist with that process, please see our FAQ on the Drupal 8.x end-of-life.
|
Note: As Drupal 8.x has reached its end of life with Drupal.org, no version of Drupal 8.x is compatible with PHP 8.0. If an application is still utilizing Drupal 8.x, it will need to be upgraded to Drupal 9.1 or higher in order to upgrade from PHP 7.4 to PHP 8.0 or you will need to purchase long-term support for PHP 7.4. Please contact your Account Manager in order to discuss these options as needed. |
Q: Can Acquia help me migrate from Drupal 9.x to Drupal 10.x?
Custom engagements are available from Professional Services for customers looking for assistance with migrating Drupal 9.x sites to Drupal 10.x. For additional information, please contact your Account Manager.
Q: Are there other major software upgrades on Acquia Cloud coming soon?
