Configuring Applications

In Cloud Platform, an application is a software product that implements a web service, such as a Drupal-based website or a web-accessible API. Application specifically refers to the software product as an entity in itself, separate from the potentially many installations of the application in different environments (like Production or Dev) that may use specific domain names, with specific content. Applications have a lifecycle and typically have multiple versions. You cannot create applications in Cloud Platform. To get an application added for your organization, you must contact your Acquia account manager. For more information, visit Managing applications.

In Multi-Experience Operations, you can use the self-service capabilities in Cloud Platform to create new experiences. You can create new applications from existing codebases. With this flexibility, you can quickly respond to business needs and launch new digital experiences without needing to contact your Acquia account managers.

By default, the applications that you create have the following environments:

  • Dev
  • Stage
  • Prod

To create an application:

  1. Sign in to the Cloud Platform user interface.
  2. Go to Codebases.
The system displays all the available codebases.
  3. Select a specific codebase to add an application.

  4. In Applications, click Add Application.

This displays the Add Application page.

  5. Specify your application name.
  6. Specify a technical domain name. After you define this value, you cannot modify it.
  7. Click Next.
The system displays the application name, subscription region, name of the subscription, and the associated codebase.

  8. Verify that the details are accurate and click Create Application
This creates the application first followed by the three default environments. This process might take some time. After your application and environments are created, you can perform all application and environment-related tasks, similar to how you do them for Cloud Platform. For more information, visit Managing applications.
