My website does not run in English; what can I expect?

Acquia Search can index websites in most languages, but Acquia Search passes content through a language-specific stemmer during indexing, depending on the search schema you have configured for your website. Acquia Search offers search schemas for Dutch, French, German, Spanish, and English. You can search other languages, but the search may produce less relevant search results because partial words, plurals and other variations may not be indexed as expected. If your website is in a language other than Dutch, English, French, German, or Spanish, create a Support ticket to see whether a search schema specific to that language is available for you.

Acquia Search powered by SearchStax

Acquia Search powered by SearchStax supports non-English languages and multiple languages on the same site. Language configuration is managed through the SearchStax dashboard — you are not limited to a fixed set of languages.

How language support works

When a language is added and configured in SearchStax, it uses language-specific field types (including dictionaries, analyzers, and stemmers) for optimised search results in that language.

If a language is configured in Drupal but has not been added to the SearchStax application, SearchStax falls back to default text field processing. Content is still indexed and fully searchable; however, language-specific optimisations are not applied.

During or after migration to Acquia Search powered by SearchStax, you may see the following warning:

This is expected behaviour and safe to ignore. No action is required for basic multilingual search.

To enable language-specific features

Configure languages in the SearchStax dashboard by navigating to App Settings > Languages. Optionally, configure Search Profiles with Data Filters for language-specific search behaviour.
