Organizing applications with tags

With application tagging, if you have many applications in your Acquia Cloud interface, you can better organize and manage those applications by adding custom tags to each application individually, or in bulk. Acquia Cloud allows you to manage applications’ tags both through the Acquia Cloud user interface or with the Acquia Cloud API.

Tagging your applications enables them to be filtered by tag in the Acquia Cloud user interface (displaying only the applications in which you are interested), and lets you run reports based on custom criteria. Applications can have more than one tag, and in those cases, Acquia Cloud displays tags sorted alphanumerically. For example: 1Tag, TAg, Tag1, and tag.

Application tagging is available for all Acquia Cloud subscription levels. However, only users with Administrator and Team Lead roles have permissions to add and remove individual tags in the Acquia Cloud user interface. Only users with Owner or Administrator roles may add or remove tags in bulk.

Application tags are shared for use with any application in a single organization. Based on all tags being shared in this manner, Acquia Cloud doesn’t support private or personal tags for applications. Tags can’t be shared between organizations.

For Acquia Cloud Site Factory subscribers

Regardless of their creation method, application tags created for Acquia Cloud don’t display in the Acquia Cloud Site Factory interface.

Adding tags to a single application

For information on bulk adding application tags to many applications, see Bulk adding tags to many applications.

To add a single tag to an application, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign in to Acquia Cloud as a user with the Administrator or Team Lead role.

  2. Use the procedure based on your currently displayed page in the Acquia Cloud interface:

    • Applications page: Click the plus icon ( + ) in the card of the application you want to tag.

  3. In the dialog box that appears, enter a text label for your tag, based on the labeling requirements. If tags have been previously added to applications in your organization, Acquia Cloud displays any tags that match your provided text.

  4. Select a color for your tag.

  5. Click OK.

Acquia Cloud will add a tag to your application with the label and color you selected. You can now filter for this tag on the Applications page.

You can add tags, one at a time, to applications in your organization. You can’t, however, apply a tag to multiple applications simultaneously in the Acquia Cloud user interface; however, an Acquia Cloud API endpoint is available that supports tagging multiple applications simultaneously.

Changing previously created tags

You cannot change an application tag after creating it. To change a tag, you must remove the tag from all applications to delete the application tag from Acquia Cloud, and then recreate the tag with your required changes.

Requirements for tag label names

Application tag label names must meet the following requirements:

  • 16 characters or fewer, with no spaces. The tag name can contain special characters, including underscores ( _ ) and dashes ( - ).
  • Tag names are case-sensitive: For example, example and EXAMPLE are distinct tags.
  • Tag color and label are paired. If you create a green EXAMPLE tag, you can’t create a red EXAMPLE tag.

Removing tags from a single application

To remove a tag from an application, complete the following steps:


  • For information on bulk removing tags from multiple applications, see Bulk removing tags from many applications.
  • If an application tag that you want to remove from one application is associated with another application in your organization, Acquia Cloud will continue to display the tag as a suggested option when adding tags to other applications.
  1. Sign in to Acquia Cloud.

  2. On the Applications page, locate the application card displaying the tag you want to remove.

  3. Point to the tag you want to remove. Acquia Cloud will display an X icon.

  4. Click the X icon, and then click Confirm to remove the tag.

Acquia Cloud removes the tag from this application. If the tag you removed isn’t associated with any other application, Acquia Cloud will permanently delete the tag.


Acquia cannot restore application tags that have been deleted.

Filtering applications by tag

After your applications have been tagged, you can filter based on tag labels by appending a hashtag (#) to the tag label in the existing input filter on the Applications page. To do this, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign in to Acquia Cloud as a user with the Administrator or Team Lead role.

  2. On the Applications page, locate the Filter Applications field in the top right of the page.

  3. In the Filter Applications field, enter the text by which to filter (for example, #coolestapp).

    To filter on many tag labels, use or between the tag labels you want to filter:

    #coolestapp or #bestapp or #coolerapp

Acquia Cloud displays applications with titles or tags matching your text.
