Personalization

Building personalized experiences

After you have set your campaign information, the next step is to configure your actual personalization. Each rule you create will be different depending on what campaign type you build. Creating a campaign starts when you click Build or Build Experience.

When you click one of those buttons, the visual builder launches, taking you to the website. The website displays a new top and bottom navigation bar. Use the tools to personalize your webpage.

Within the visual builder, you can fully navigate your website, clicking on any links and visiting any pages you want.

Using the visual builder toolbars

The upper visual builder navigation toolbar has the following sections:

  • Back returns you to the Personalization Campaigns page.

  • The rule details include the campaign type icon, the campaign name, and the experience name.

  • The URL navigation section allows you to specify a URL and navigate to the same.

  • The toggle for Browse or Edit mode.

Note

You can add or update the path and query strings in the URL navigation section and not the base domain, which appears in the read-only mode. The URL is populated from the URL field on the Site Details page. For more information, see Adding a new site.

The lower visual builder navigation toolbar has the following sections:

  • New slot: Add personalized content to your website through slots—regions of your website defined for personalization. See Creating personalized slots.

  • The number of existing slots. Click the caret ^ to open the menu.

  • Save & Continue: when you have completed the changes for this rule.

Adding content to slots

To view the slots on the page and make changes:

  1. Click the toggle switch in the upper-right corner of the page.

  2. Switch the visual builder from Browse mode to Edit mode.

    • Browse: displays the website as it is configured.

    • Edit mode: highlights all slots on the page in blue background:

  3. To change the content of a slot for the given campaign, click into the slot. Depending on the campaign type, a new content dialog box displays.

A/B and targeted personalization tests display all the usable content available for personalization coming from Drupal through Acquia Content Hub.

    1. Click the content item in the list. If you don’t see the content you are looking for, use the Search for content search box, or scroll down. The content list will load ten more items at a time.

    2. Click the Filter button to filter. Click Clear to clear the content.

      1. Click Filter below the filter list to apply, or Cancel to close the filter menu.

      2. To remove existing filters, click Clear all filters. If filters are in place, the filter button changes to Filtered.

By default, the Source filter is set to the current website.

    3. The selected content’s title displays in a grey bar at the bottom of the dialog box. To change the layout of the content, click the Layout menu and select an option.

    4. Click Select Content.

If no content is selected, the grey bar at the bottom of the dialog box displays Current Selection: No Content Selected. Click Save to save the current selection or Cancel to close the dialog box.

  4. If more than one campaign rule affects a single slot, click Prioritize Experience to set the order in which those personalizations are delivered. If the slot isn’t found, this option isn’t available.

    Note

Newly created personalizations on a slot receive first priority. Successive prioritization changes are saved in the order you specify.

  5. Drag the campaign rules to change priority. Rules evaluate top-to-bottom in the list based on which segments a visitor matches.

  6. Continue by making any other changes.

  7. When finished, click Confirm or Confirm criteria to move on, Edit Criteria to return to the filter selection (content recommendations only), or Cancel to discard.

If you have confirmed the content selection, the added content renders in the slot. Content also renders if you have selected Preview mode.

Using campaign content filters

Several types of filters are available for narrowing your content selections. Filters vary and are dependent on the campaign type.

The following filters are common to all tests:

  • Content Type: Enter one or more content types, comma separated

  • Sources: Click the dropdown to open a list of source websites from where your content is imported.

  • Tags: Click the dropdown and then click one or more tags. Type in the field to filter. In content recommendations type of campaigns, content returned matches one or more tags.

  • Publish date: Click the dropdown to open the date picker to select a date. The date picker has the following options, selectable by radio button:

    • Range: Choose two dates. Content published between these dates displays.

    • Before: Content published before the selected date displays.

    • After: Content published after the selected date displays.

    • Period: Click Please select a period to choose from the following periods: last 7 days, last 14 days, last 30 days, last 60 days, or last 90 days.
