Advanced search filters assets using detailed criteria such as file format, metadata fields, dates, and more. You can use advanced search in both the new search experience and the classic search experience.
Requirements
An administrator must enable advanced search in Admin > Global Settings > Features. This setting controls both the classic advanced search available in the More menu and advanced search in the new search experience.
Only users whose role has the Access Advanced Search application permission can use advanced search. This is the same permission that controls legacy advanced search. You do not need to configure a new permission or role. Users already provisioned for legacy advanced search automatically see the advanced search option in the new experience.
Advanced search in the new search experience
Access advanced search
In the new search experience, open the filter panel.
At the top of the filter panel, locate the Basic / Advanced toggle.
Click Advanced.
The filter panel defaults to Basic mode each time it opens. Clicking Advanced replaces the Basic mode filter sections with the Advanced Search card builder. The Basic mode sections include categories, file type, and other standard filters.
Users without the Access Advanced Search permission do not see this toggle. They see only the standard filter panel, and their experience is unchanged.
Note
When you switch between Basic and Advanced modes, any filter conditions already applied remain active and continue to appear as chips in the chip area. Switching modes does not clear existing filters.
Build an advanced search
Advanced search in the new experience functions as advanced filters rather than a separate search page. If you start with a keyword in the search bar and then add advanced filter cards, the system keeps the keyword and adds the filters to that result set. Advanced mode filters, Basic mode filters, and the keyword search bar can all be active at the same time. Basic mode filters include categories, file type, and other standard filters.
In the Advanced Search card builder, a blank filter card appears by default. Click the Search Criteria dropdown to select a field. Each card targets one field.
The available fields are almost identical to the legacy version of advanced search. Some fields not present in legacy advanced search, such as Uploader, are available in the new advanced search.
After you select a field, the card displays an operator selector. Only operators valid for that field type are shown:

Fields that are always populated on every asset do not offer the Is empty or Is not empty operators. Examples of these fields are Filename, File Format, Uploader, and Date Added.
After you select an operator, the card shows the appropriate value input. Depending on the field type, the value input may be a multi-select picker, text input, date input, or numeric input. For Is empty or Is not empty, no value input appears.
For the Filesize field, a unit selector appears alongside the numeric input. The default unit is MB. Available units are Bytes, KB, MB, and GB.
The same field cannot appear in more than one card. Fields already used in an existing card are unavailable in the field picker for additional cards.
Add as many filter cards as needed.
Click Submit to apply the filters and update the results.
Submit and update results
Results and result counts do not update in real time as you build or edit cards. Changes take effect only when you click Submit.
After you click Submit, each applied advanced filter card produces exactly one chip in the chip area, regardless of how many values the card contains.
The Submit button disables immediately after you click it, indicating the displayed results are current. It re-enables as soon as you make any change to the panel: adding a card, removing a card, or editing the field, operator, or values within an existing card.
Understand how applied filters appear as chips
Advanced filter chips display the field name, a colon, the operator (if meaningful), and the value or values. The chip omits the In operator because the value list makes inclusion self-evident. Examples:
File Format: JPG, PNG (In omitted)
Asset Group: not in Approved
Number of versions: > 5
Expiration date: before 2026-06-01
AI Tag: is empty
Basic mode filter chips from the standard filter panel continue to display only the value without a field name prefix. Both types of chips appear in the same chip area and work together against the search results.
Remove filters
To remove a single advanced filter, click the × on its chip. This removes the corresponding card from the panel and updates both the results and the URL.
To remove all filters at once, click Clear filters. This clears all advanced filter cards and all Basic mode filters simultaneously.
Understand filter logic
Within a card (multi-select In or Not in only): Multiple selected values combine with OR logic. For example, "File Format: JPG, PNG" returns assets that are JPG or PNG.
Between cards: All cards combine with AND logic. An asset must satisfy every card condition to appear in results.
Example: If you have one card set to File Format: In JPG, PNG and another set to Asset Group: In Eudaimonia, the results include assets that are in the Eudaimonia asset group AND are either a JPG or a PNG.
Specify dates
For any date field, the value control offers three modes:
Specific date: Enter or pick a single date. Use with Is, Is before, or Is after.
Explicit date range: Enter a start date and end date. Use with Between.
Dynamic range: Select a preset that the system calculates relative to today at query time. Available presets: Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days, This week, This month, This quarter, This year, Year to date.
Dynamic range presets recalculate each time you submit the search. A saved URL with Last 30 days always reflects the 30 days before the day it is opened.
Share a filtered view via URL
When a search includes advanced filters, the filters are included in the URL in the same way that search terms and basic filters are currently included. Copy the URL from the browser address bar to share the filtered view.
Recipients with the Access Advanced Search permission who open the link on the same site see the same filter cards applied.
Recipients without the Access Advanced Search permission: The system silently strips the advanced filter parameters from the URL. Only basic filters and search terms apply. No error is shown, and no advanced filter chips appear.
Deleted or unresolved entities: If an advanced filter card in a shared URL references an entity that no longer exists on the current site, that card chip displays with a visually distinct not-found style to signal that the filter could not be resolved. The entity might be a deleted uploader or a removed metadata field value. Click the × on the chip to dismiss it. This removes the chip from both the chip area and the URL.
Advanced search in the classic search experience
In the classic search experience, click More in the search bar.
Click Advanced Search.
On the Advanced Search page, select a field from the dropdown list.
Enter or select a value for the field.
Add more field-value pairs as needed.
Click Search to view results.
Your query is translated into search syntax and displayed in the search bar on the results page. To adjust your query, return to the Advanced Search page and modify your selections.
