This guide contains definitions and explanations of acronyms and abbreviations used in the Acquia Optimize user guide, presented in alphabetical order.

2FAThe acronym for Two-Factor Authentication, used interchangeably with 2FV.
2FVThe acronym for Two-Factor Verification, used interchangeably with 2FA.
ACSThe acronym for Assertion Consumer Service. This, together with the URL, tells the IdP where to redirect an authenticated user after sign-in.
ACTThe acronym for Accessibility Conformance Testing. It is an officially published accessibility testing standard, designed to ensure that web content conforms to the accessibility standards set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
AESThe acronym for Advanced Encryption Standard. It is a specification of electronic data encryption, established by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2001.
ALT attributeThe abbreviation for Alternative Attribute. This refers to the HTML attribute used in HTML and XHTML documents to specify alternative text that is to be displayed in place of an element (for example, an image) that cannot be rendered. Useful for sight-impaired users who use a screen reader, for example.

APAThe acronym for Australia's Privacy Act. It includes thirteen codes of conduct with regards to the disclosure of personal information. Websites, companies, and organizations that operate in Australia must follow these codes of conduct in order to be compliant.
APIThe acronym for Application Programming Interface. It is a connection between computers or between computer programs.
ARIAThe acronym for Accessible Rich Internet Applications. A set of attributes you can add to HTML elements that define ways to make web content and applications accessible to users who depend on assistive technologies (AT) to access website content. When accessibility issues cannot be managed with native HTML, ARIA can help bridge those gaps.
ATThe acronym for Assistive Technologies.
BAAThe acronym for Business Associate Agreement. A legal document between a healthcare provider and a contractor.
BIThe acronym for Business Intelligence.
BITVThe acronym for Barrier-Free Information Technology Ordinance, a web accessibility standards regulation for websites in Germany as well as websites in the German language.
CCPAThe acronym for the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018.
CDThe acronym for Continuous Delivery or Continuous Deployment.
CIThe acronym for Continuous Integration.
CJEUThe acronym for the European Court of Justice.
COIhe acronym for Certificate of Insurance. It is a document from an insurer to show you have business insurance.
CookiesCookies are small data files that are saved on your device. They are processed and stored through a web browser. Cookies are not files that can contain harmful programs or viruses, and they are generally easily viewed and deleted. Cookies can collect IP address information and then be used to track online activity. They can potentially identify you, and therefore they can be considered as personal data in some circumstances. Cookies can be used for several purposes. Most commonly, cookies are used to record the way a website is seen and experienced.

CSRThe acronym for CSR - Client Side Rendering.
CSSThe acronym for Cascading Style Sheets. It is a declarative language that controls the style and layout of a webpage as it is seen in the browser.
DAMThe acronym for Digital Asset Management.
DEKThe acronym for Data Encryption Key.
DLPThe acronym for Data Loss Prevention.
docThe abbreviation for Document. When preceded by a period (.doc) it refers to a filename extension used for word-processing documents that are stored on Microsoft's proprietary Microsoft Word Binary File Format.
docxThe acronym for Document XML Standard. It is a Microsoft Word Open XML Format Document.
DPAThe acronym for Data Processing Agreement.
DPFThe acronym for Data Privacy Framework.
DPoDThe acronym for Data Protection on Demand.
DXPThe acronym for Digital Experience Platform.
EDPBThe acronym for the European Data Protection Board.
EKMThe acronym for External Key Management.

FTP The acronym for File Transfer Protocol, a network protocol that is used to transfer files between computers through a network or the internet.
GAThe acronym for Google Analytics.
GCPThe acronym for Google Cloud Platform.
GCSThe acronym for Google Cloud Storage.
GDPRThe acronym for General Data Protection Regulation. A European Union regulation on Information privacy in the European Union and the European Economic Area.
GUIDThe acronym for Globally Unique Identifier. It is a 128-bit label used for information in computer systems. This acronym is used most often by Microsoft systems. See also UUID.
HHSThe acronym for the United States Department of Health and Human Services (USA).
HIPAAThe acronym for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 prohibits healthcare providers and healthcare businesses from disclosing protected information to anyone other than a patient and the patient's authorized representatives without their consent.
hreflangThe abbreviation for an HTML tag that indicates the content language and geographical location that each individual page is targeted for. Hreflang tags tell Google which page is for which language.
HSMThe acronym for Hardware Security Module.
HTTPSThe acronym for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure.
IaaSThe acronym for Infrastructure as a Service.
ICOThe acronym for the United Kingdom’s Information Commissioner’s Office.
IdP or IDPThe abbreviation for Identity Provider. It is a system entity that creates, maintains, and manages identity information.
IDTAThe acronym for the United Kingdom Information Commissioner’s Office’s International Data Transfer Addendum.
ID Theft Red Flags ruleA regulation by the Federal Trade Commission (USA). "The Red Flags Rule requires many businesses and organizations to implement a written identity theft prevention program designed to detect the “red flags” of identity theft in their day-to-day operations, take steps to prevent the crime, and mitigate its damage." ISAThe acronym for the International Society of Automation. See International Society of Automation (ISA).
ISOThe acronym for the International Organization for Standardization.

JPEGThe acronym for Joint Photographic Experts Group. A digital image compression format.
JSThe abbreviation for JavaScript. It is is a programming language that is often used as the scripting language for web pages.
JSONThe acronym for JavaScript Object Notation.
KEKThe acronym for Key Encryption Key.
Lang attributeThe abbreviation for Language Attribute. The lang attribute specifies the language of the element's content in HTML.
MFAThe acronym for Multi-Factor Authentication.
NDAThe acronym for Non-Disclosure Agreement.
NPPIThe acronym for Non-Public Personal Information.
Open SourceA specific approach to software development and distribution, where the source code of a computer program is made freely available to the public.
OTPThe acronym for One-Time Password.
OWASPThe acronym for the Open Worldwide Application Security Project. It is an online community that produces freely available articles, methodologies, documentation, tools, and technologies in the field of web application security. For more information, see OWASP.
PaaSThe acronym for Platform as a Service.
PDFThe acronym for Portable Document Format. It is a document file format developed by Adobe.
PHIThe acronym for Protected Health Information (USA).
PIPEDAThe Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act of Canada applies to transfers of personal information to a third party operating outside of Canada.

PNGThe acronym for Portable Network Graphic. A high-quality digital image compression format.
PPTThe acronym for "PowerPoint Presentation". PPT is the default presentation format for Microsoft Office 97-2003. PPT files are saved to the disc as binary files.
PPTXThe acronym for Microsoft PowerPoint Open XML. PPTX files are saved in Office Open XML format.
RBACThe acronym for Role-Based Access Control.
RCOThe acronym for Recovery Consistency Objective.
regexThe abbreviation for Regular Expression.
RESTfulThe abbreviation for Representational State Transfer, an application programming interface.
RPOThe acronym for Recovery Point Objective.
RTOThe acronym for Recovery Time Objective.
