Acquia Cloud is designed as an optimized Drupal hosting platform. Acquia Cloud only runs Drupal and the software needed to run, support, and improve Drupal performance. This page lists the software versions running by default on the Acquia Cloud platform.

  1. Acquia Cloud Professional subscriptions created after January 22, 2014 and Acquia Cloud Enterprise subscriptions created after May 21, 2014.

  2. Acquia Cloud Professional subscriptions created on or before January 22, 2014 and Acquia Cloud Enterprise subscriptions created on or before May 21, 2014. These have been upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04.

  3. Acquia Cloud Free.

Supported software and features

Acquia Cloud supports:

  • Your Drupal 8, Drupal 7, or Drupal 6 code
  • Drush 4 and later
  • Integrated version management (Git or SVN)
  • SSL Certificates (additional fee required)
  • Automated disaster recovery backup
  • Custom cron jobs
  • Shell access using SSH
  • File access using sftp and rsync
  • MySQL administration using the MySQL CLI or other tools
  • The current and prior major release of the Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari web browsers

In addition, Acquia Cloud Enterprise supports the following Enterprise features:

  • High-availability failover using multiple Amazon Web Services data centers (Availability Zones)
  • Outgoing VPN access (Cisco VPN compatible - additional fee required)
  • Shared authentication or single sign-on using LDAP or SAML (contact your Sales Engineer for cost and compatibility information)
  • Multi-region replication (additional fee required)

All Acquia subscribers receive:

  • Acquia Search — Easily add scalable search to your site
  • Insight — Information about your Drupal site's optimization and security
  • Mollom spam blocking

Included software

Your Acquia Cloud server includes the following (non-complete) list of software packages:

  • Common PEAR and PECL libraries
  • Common PHP modules (including PDO, FreeTDS, OpenSSL, json, curl, and xml). For detailed information, go to your Drupal site's PHP information page at /admin/reports/status/php
  • ffmpeg (video transcoding)
  • Ghostscript
  • OpenSSL
  • Drush (versions 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. The default version is Drush 6.)
  • Common Linux command-line utilities
  • Networking tools (including curl and wget)
  • Performance analysis tools (including ps, top, and strace)
  • Development tools (vim and emacs)
  • Languages (gcc, perl, php, python, and ruby)

Unsupported software

Acquia Cloud does not support the following software:

  • Moodle (not compatible with high availability)
  • piwik (we've repeatedly seen this cause performance issues)
  • Any non-Drupal Content Management System (CMS)
  • CA Single Sign-on (formerly CA SiteMInder)

The following software cannot be installed on Acquia Cloud:

  • Non-standard database software, such as Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server
  • Custom daemons or services, such as Jabber, node.js, or Microsoft Exchange
  • Custom package installations that require apt-get

Some Drupal contributed modules are incompatible with Acquia Cloud, or may require special configuration or care. For more information, see Module incompatibilities with Acquia Cloud.
