Copying (cloning) an existing site in Acquia Dev Desktop

You can easily make a copy of one of your existing websites in Acquia Dev Desktop. To do so, complete the following steps:

  1. In the main Acquia Dev Desktop interface, click the website that you want to copy.
  2. Click More, and then click Clone local codebase.
  3. Acquia Dev Desktop displays the Clone local Drupal codebase dialog box.

You can either change the values for the local codebase folder, local site name, PHP version, and database name, or accept the defaults (which are the same values as the website that you copied, with clone appended).

  4. Click OK.

Changes to settings.php

When you make a local copy of an Acquia Cloud website, Acquia Dev Desktop makes a modification to the website's settings.php file to point to a folder that contains Acquia Dev Desktop-specific settings files. This modification ensures that your local website connects to your local database, while your Acquia Cloud website continues to connect to the Acquia Cloud database.

Be sure to include this change when you push your local code to Acquia Cloud, since it is needed for Acquia Dev Desktop to run and has no effect on either Acquia Cloud websites or other developers using those websites.
