Before you can use Insight, you must connect your website to Acquia. This connection provides access to your website's logging and configuration, which Insight then reads and evaluates as it looks for alert conditions.
Getting started with Insight
- Start using Insight by signing in to Acquia.
- Select your website, and then select Insight.
- Review the Insight > Overview page, which displays your website's current Insight rating, any priority critical alerts, and horizontal graphs of the number of alerts by category.
Understanding the Insight rating
Insight inspects each of the websites that you've connected to Acquia, based on their performance, security, and adherence to Acquia's identified best practices. Insight displays an alert for each of the items that it examines and creates an overall rating for your website based on the types of alerts it encountered.
Your Insight rating is made up of two parts:
- Percentage score
Note that because Insight assigns different weights to each alert, the percentage and number of resolved issues don't directly relate to one another. Even if Insight reports that only one alert is unresolved, if the one alert is a priority critical alert, your Insight rating could be red, and your website's performance or security could be greatly affected.
- Color, defined as follows:
Your website is operating normally. While you can still have critical or warning alerts for your website, the number and severity of the alerts aren't enough to significantly affect your website. No immediate action is needed.
Your website's performance or security may be affected by the alerts reported by Insight. Schedule a time to resolve the alerts reported on the Insight > Analysis page to improve your website's Insight rating.
Your website is affected by at least one issue that greatly affects the website's performance or security. Immediately resolve any reported critical alerts on the Overview or Analysis pages to improve your overall Insight rating.
Applying Insight feedback to your website
When Insight identifies an issue or improvement for your website, it creates an alert to inform you of the problem, which includes instructions on how to fix it. Insight categorizes alerts into these groups, listed on the left side of the Insight page:
- Best practices
- Code analysis

If Insight encounters a priority critical alert that poses a serious security or performance risk, it also displays the alert on the Overview page. Insight alerts are also displayed in your Acquia notifications.
The title of an alert message briefly describes the issue. If you click the Details link, a window opens with additional information about the issue, including how to resolve it.
The Acquia Connector module sends information to Acquia Insight when your website runs cron, and Insight updates your website's scores and alerts every 30 minutes, so you can expect changes you make to your website to be reflected in your Insight scores after 30 minutes plus your website's cron interval. You can also trigger your website to send information to Insight manually, either:
- On your website's Admin > Reports > Status report page, under Acquia SPI, by clicking manually send SPI data, or
- By running cron.
Types of alert messages
Insight displays four different alerts on the Analysis page:
Critical alerts - Red
Your website is experiencing a serious condition that you should immediately address and resolve. Critical alerts have a greater effect on your overall Insight rating.
Warning alerts - Yellow or Orange
Your website is experiencing a condition that you should address and resolve when convenient. Orange warning alerts affect your website's rating more than yellow warning alerts. While warning alerts affect your website's Insight rating less than critical alerts, a high number of warning alerts can have a similar effect as a critical alert on your rating.
Resolved alerts - Green
If you resolve an issue associated with a warning or critical alert, the alert changes into a resolved alert after the next cron run.
Ignored alerts - Grey
If you click the button for any of the other alert types, the alert turns grey and moves to the bottom of its category's alert list on the Analysis page. Ignored alerts do not affect a website's overall Insight rating. To stop ignoring an alert, click the Restore link for the alert.
Downloading an Insight report
Click Download an Insight report to download a PDF version of your website's Insight report, including not just scores, but also details about each insight check, its alert status, and suggested actions to resolve the alert.
Viewing MySQL database statistics
The Insight > MySQL Statistics page provides detailed statistical data about your website's database performance. It also displays graphs with your website's database cache hit rate and cache prunes over time.
