Acquia’s Certification Program

The Acquia Certification Program prepares subscribers, partners, and the Drupal community to work competently and confidently with Drupal and Acquia products. Acquia certifications are the trusted benchmark for validating and promoting your expertise.

Acquia oversees the professional certification program for Drupal and the Acquia Platform. Whether you’re a member of a digital agency, an Acquia customer, or an individual Drupalist, the Acquia Certification Program ensures you and your team meet a standard bar of skills and competence within a competitive marketplace.

The Drupal Grand Master designation is earned by any Drupalist who has demonstrated advanced Drupal expertise by achieving certification in the Acquia Certified Developer, Acquia Certified Back End Specialist, and Acquia Certified Front End Specialist exams of the same Drupal version. There isn’t a separate exam required to become a Drupal Grand Master. The Acquia Certification Program awards Drupal Grand Master credentials to Drupalists who pass all three of the exams. Acquia awards the Drupal Grand Master designation for all versions of Drupal.

Registering for an Acquia certification exam

Complete the following steps to register for an Acquia certification exam:

  1. Log in to Webassessor.

    If you don’t have an account, you must create one and adhere to the following guidelines:

    • If your company is sponsoring your exam, you must provide the company name when registering.
    • You must also use your given name as it appears on your photo identification card. You will need the identification to prove your identity at testing center locations.
  2. Click the Register for exam link located on the top right menu.

  3. Click the + button to expand the catalogs, and find the exam you want to take.

  4. Click + button by the exam name to see available exam delivery options (onsite or online).

  5. Carefully select either the online or onsite delivery option and click the Buy Now button next to selected option.

  6. Complete the following steps based on the option you selected in the previous step.

    Online option

    1. Select your time zone, then desired test date and available time option.
    2. Select Terms and Conditions at the bottom and click Select to proceed to the next screen.

    Onsite option

    1. Select your city, and review the available testing centers in your city.
    2. Select the desired testing center and click Select.
    3. On the following screen, select the desired test date and available time option.
    4. Select the Terms and Conditions at the bottom and proceed to the next screen.
  7. If you have a voucher or coupon code, enter the code in the box provided. Otherwise, proceed to the checkout page, and enter your billing information and make the payment.

    You will receive the registration information and your schedule by email.

Can I register for others?

Due to the nature of certification exams, Acquia doesn’t allow you to sign up for others seeking to take an exam. Every exams requires the creation of a biometric profile, which is unique to the test taker.

Taking an online proctored exam

Before taking an online proctored exam, ensure you do the following:

  1. Set up and test your computer at least 24 hours before the exam start time, so if an issue arises that prevents you from taking the exam, you may reschedule the exam without paying a fee.
  2. Review the requirements and instructions for online proctored exams several days before your exam to ensure you have the correct hardware and software.
  3. You must schedule your exam at least 24 hours before the exam start time.
  4. You will need an internal or external webcam.
  5. Don’t use two monitors.
  6. You should take the exam alone in a quiet place, as you will be monitored and noise or busy surroundings may cause the proctor to suspend your exam.
  7. Don’t use headphones for the duration of the exam.
  8. Help or tutoring during an exam is strictly prohibited.

Signing in to take your certification exam

On the day of your exam, before the exam start time, you must log in to Webassessor. Acquia recommends you take a few minutes to prepare your workspace and confirm with the proctor that you are ready to take the test. When you are ready, click Launch Exam to begin the exam.

Receiving your exam results

If you pass the exam, you will receive an email containing the following items:

  • Your exam’s score.
  • A certificate in PDF format containing your name, the name of the exam, and the date of completion
  • A digital badge.

Note

If you didn’t receive an email, check your spam or trash folder. If you don’t find an email in either of those folders, email certification@acquia.com. Acquia doesn’t issue physical or printed certificates.

Viewing your Acquia Certification Registry record

If you opted in to sharing your data during the registration process, once you have passed an exam, your data will be transmitted to our Certification Registry for the world to see (allow up to 12 hours for this transmission). Potential employers use the Registry to look for Drupal and Acquia product talent, and many of our partners use the Registry to market their team’s skills.

The Acquia Certification Registry uses the data in your Webassessor profile to create your registry profile, so if that is out of date, so will be your registry listing. To request an update to your registry listing, use this form.

Preparing for your Acquia Certification exam

The information in this section will help you prepare for your exam. Acquia recommends you use the following materials to prepare:

  • Study guides: Acquia publishes comprehensive study guides for each certification exam. These guides provide learning resources, road maps, and tips for success.
  • Tutorials: Acquia has developed Drupal 8 and Acquia product tutorials on some topics, to help you build your Drupal and Acquia product skills. The tutorials are in Acquia’s Knowledge Base, so you can find them by searching on Acquia docs.
  • E-Learning: For customers, Acquia Academy provides multimedia training materials related to Drupal and Acquia products. You can self-register with your work email address to access hours of training materials for free. Acquia has a branch of Acquia Academy for Acquia Partners, too! If you’re not an Acquia customer or partner, you can find some training materials in playlists on Acquia’s YouTube channel.

How are the Acquia Certification exams conducted?

Acquia Certification exams are conducted by our testing partner Kryterion using their testing system called Webassessor. You have the choice to take an exam online from your location (online proctored, or OLP), or onsite at one of Kryterion’s worldwide test centers. For online proctored exams, you’ll need a compatible Windows or Mac computer with a webcam and to install the Sentinel software. View the Test Taker Guide for full details.

Onsite exams are administered at Kryterion Testing Centers in more than 750 locations worldwide. For onsite exams, test takers must comply with the rules of the testing center selected. If you use your correct address when you create your account, Webassessor will recommend the testing centers closest to you as options for onsite testing.

How can I find a Kryterion test center location?

Kryterion, Acquia’s testing partner, has more than 750 test centers worldwide. To find a test center near you, visit Kryterion’s test center locator page.

If you don’t find a test center near your location, you can take an online test.

Can I take an online proctored exam using a Linux computer?

Unfortunately, at this time Kryterion doesn’t support the Linux OS for online testing. Only Windows and Mac computers are compatible with the Sentinel software. If you don’t have access to a Windows or Mac computer, you can take the certification at a testing center or at one of our certification events, at which computers are provided. What are the benefits of buying bulk exam vouchers?

You can buy bulk vouchers for exams from Acquia in a 10-pack that can be used for any exam. The benefits of bulk vouchers are that sales tax isn’t charged, vouchers are valid for one year from the date purchased, they lower the cost of some exams, and they’re transferable (you can give them away). To buy bulk exam vouchers, email certification@acquia.com, or if you’re an Acquia partner, contact your Partner manager.

Where can I take a certification exam?

Acquia offers certification exams at DrupalCons and at other Drupal-related camps and conferences when possible. If there is a test center at an event, exams may be offered at a discount. The specific offer will be detailed on the event’s certification page.

Acquia updates the schedule and location for the DrupalCon test center before each of these events. You can find the schedule and location of each event on the Drupal Certification page.

Why is a sales tax applied to my certification exam?

To comply with recent international tax law (as of October 2019), Webassessor is now charging sales tax on exams purchased through the platform. These taxes, when they’re applied, vary by country and even by U.S. state and start at 3% of the cost of an exam. Users may experience that they’re charged sales tax even if they weren’t charged this tax before. Acquia can’t opt-out of this tax, as it’s based on a redefinition of taxes on goods and services. Does Acquia have a VAT number so I can get reimbursed for the taxes I’ve paid?

Acquia doesn’t have a VAT number to allow for reimbursement of this tax in the EU. For questions or issues related to exam taxation, users should email tax@kryteriononline.com.

Cancelling your Acquia Certification exam

When cancelling a certification exam, ensure you adhere to the following guidelines:

Online proctored exams: You may cancel a scheduled online proctored exam up to 24 hours before the scheduled time for a full refund. If you cancel inside the 24-hour window, you won’t receive a refund.

Onsite exams: You may cancel a scheduled onsite exam up to 72 hours before the scheduled time for a full refund. If you cancel inside the 72-hour window, you won’t receive a refund.

Canceling an exam for a refund

You can cancel an exam you have registered for a full refund, as long as the exam is cancelled more than 72 hours before the commencement of the exam (for onsite tests) or more than 24 hours before the commencement of the exam (for online tests).

To cancel your exam, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to Webassessor.
  2. Select My Assessments from the top menu.
  3. On the resulting page, under Scheduled Exams, select the exam you want to cancel.
  4. On the resulting page, click Cancel Registration.

Rescheduling your Acquia Certification exam

To reschedule your Acquia Certification exam, ensure you adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Online proctored exams: You may reschedule an online proctored exam up t 24 hours before the scheduled time at no cost. Rescheduling fewer than 24 hours before the scheduled time is subject to rescheduling fees.
  • Onsite exams: You may reschedule an onsite exam up to 72 hours before the scheduled exam at no cost. Rescheduling an exam fewer than 72 hours before the scheduled time is subject to rescheduling fees.

Exams can be rescheduled from their originally scheduled date without penalty, as long as they’re rescheduled more than 72 hours before your exam (for onsite tests) or more than 24 hours before your exam (for online tests).

To reschedule an exam:

  1. Log in to Webassessor.
  2. Click My Assessments in the top menu.
  3. On the resulting page, under Scheduled Exams, select the exam you want to reschedule.
  4. On the resulting page, click Reschedule, and then select a new date and time for your exam. If you try to reschedule your exam too close to your scheduled exam time, you will be charged a change fee.
  5. Once you have selected a new date and time for your exam, follow the checkout process to complete the transaction.

Transferring an exam from online to onsite (and vice versa)

Exams can be changed from online to onsite, or vice versa, as long as this change is made more than 72 hours before your exam (for onsite tests) or more than 24 hours before your exam (for online tests).

To change your exam location, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to Webassessor.
  2. Click My Assessments in the top menu.
  3. On the resulting page, under Scheduled Exam, select the exam you want to change.
  4. On the resulting page, click Cancel Registration.
  5. Once you have done this, select a new exam from the available options, and follow the standard checkout process.

Resolving issues during an Acquia Certification exam

Use the information in this section to resolve any issues you may face when taking an exam.

Why is my exam suspended?

A proctor may suspend your exam if one of the following events occur:

  • You have internet connection issues (which prevents the proctor from adequately monitoring the exam).
  • You use your phone during the exam.
  • You talk to someone in the room.
  • You have unauthorized materials on your work surface.
  • You break any other online exam rules.

Kryterion will send you details about why your exam is suspended. If any test taker is suspected of cheating on an exam, Kryterion support will contact Acquia with an incident report with details and a request for response from our administrator if needed. If your exam is suspended for any reason, contact Kryterion Support in one of the ways listed above to resolve it. If Kryterion Support can’t resolve your issue, contact Acquia Certification Program Administrator at certification@acquia.com.

What happens if I miss my scheduled exam?

Since proctors monitor scheduled exams, Acquia has a strict no-show policy. If you miss your scheduled time for an exam (online or onsite) you forfeit that test. Acquia doesn’t provide a refund for no-shows. You must register and pay for the exam again or use a new voucher to pay for the exam. Setting up your computer to take an online exam takes some time. Acquia recommends setting up and testing your computer at least 24 hours before the exam start time. This way, if you have an issue that prevents you from taking your exam, you will still be able to reschedule without paying a rescheduling fee.

Acquia Certification Registry

The Acquia Certification Registry lists the names, workplace, location, and specific credentials of those who have earned Acquia certification. The following section has a list of common questions about the certification registry.

Why is my name missing from the certification registry?

Inclusion in the Acquia Certification Registry is opt-in. If you have opted in, during the exam registration process, it takes between six and 12 hours for a candidate’s name to display on the registry. If you can’t find your name after 24 hours, send an update request.

What do I do if information from my record is missing or needs updating?

If your registry record needs to be updated, send an update request.

Can I achieve Grand Master credentials by mixing D7 and D8 certifications?

No. Grand Master credentials are specific to a major Drupal version. To earn Drupal 8 certification Grand Master credentials, you must pass only the Drupal 8 Developer, Drupal 8 Front End Specialist, and Drupal 8 Back End Specialist exams (same for Drupal 7).

How can I obtain more information or speak with the Acquia Certification team?

Post exam questions

The following section has a list of common post-exam questions.

How can I receive an invoice or receipt for my exam?

A registered user can produce their own invoice by logging in to Web Assessor and clicking Generate Invoice on the home page (above the scheduled exams table).

Can I retake my certification exam?

  • If you don’t pass an exam, you may retake it up to two more times.
  • You must register again to retake an exam and either pay full price or use a coupon or voucher.
  • If you don’t pass an exam, you’ll receive an email with your score and must wait for at least two weeks before registering to retake the exam.
  • A candidate may try any exam for a maximum of three times. A fourth attempt requires a waiver from the Acquia Certification Program office.

How long will my Acquia certification last?

Technically, Acquia certifications don’t expire, but they do age. With any technical topic, it’s a good idea to refresh your certification often to prove you’re capable of working with the current version of the software or tools. When using the certification registry to search for qualified candidates, those looking for candidates will compare you to others who may have more current certification.

What do I do if my badge is missing or I didn’t receive it?

After you pass an exam, Acquia will send badges and certificates of exam completion to your email. If you don’t receive a badge, do the following:

  • View your spam folder. Sometimes, emails with attachments, or emails with attachments from unknown sources are blocked or moderated.
  • View your profile on Acquia’s Certification Registry. You can right-click and download your badge from your profile page.
  • If neither of these work, email certification@acquia.com and we can send you your badge after confirming that you passed your exam.

Why isn’t my record visible in the certification registry?

It takes up to 24 hours for an exam record to display in the registry. If you took your exam more than one day ago and your record still doesn’t display in the Certification Registry, you must complete the update request form in the footer of all Registry pages. Acquia processes the requests within a day or so.

Why is my record incorrect in the certification registry?

The data in Acquia’s Certification Registry comes from Webassessor, so if your account information is out of date there, it will be reflected in the certification registry. If you want to update information listed in the certification registry, you must complete the update request form in the footer of all Registry pages.

How can I merge two or more accounts in Webassessor?

Having more than one account in Webassessor, may prevent you from resetting your password, or it may prevent you from logging in. To merge tow or more accounts, email certification@acquia.com and specify the account you want to retain as the master account. Acquia will then merge your accounts for you. As part of Acquia’s regular platform maintenance, Acquia Certification Program administrators may contact you directly if you have two or more accounts, and request details for the account you want to retain.

How does the renaming of an Acquia product impact my certification?

Acquia has already updated your badge in our certification registry. To download your new badge for use in your CV, your email footer, or your own website, go to your registry profile and right click the badge image.

Acquia has update the Acquia Certification Registry and all its profiles to reflect the new product name.

Acquia understands that some employers require proof of certification in PDF format. If you would like to replace your old exam certificate with one containing the new product name, email certification@acquia.com. You should update your cover letter, LinkedIn profile, and other places where you discuss your accreditation to reflect the new product name and badge.
