Block definition

For more information about Drupal terms and terminology, see the Acquia Help Center Drupal term index.

Blocks are containers that Drupal uses to display information, such as search fields and view results, on one or more pages of your website. You can create both custom blocks containing images and text, and dynamic blocks that can change as your website changes.

Because you can modify their content and display regions and page placement, blocks are the primary method of visually organizing your website’s structured information around each webpage’s content.

Many modules also provide blocks to present their information on websites. For example, enabling the Comment core module displays the Recent comments block.

Drupal site administrators can create new blocks and modify their website’s block settings at Structure > Blocks (site path).

For more information about how to use blocks with your Drupal website, see Working with blocks on drupal.org.
