Region definition

Regions (also known as block regions, theme regions, or page regions) are areas defined by a theme, into which you can place blocks or content By default, Drupal themes include several predefined regions (for example, Header, Content, Sidebar first, and Footer).



Regions will vary between themes, and the prior examples will not be in all Drupal themes.

In Drupal 7, to manage and place blocks in the various regions of your website, go to Structure > Blocks.

Examining your website’s regions

Regardless of the theme that you select, you can display a preview of where your theme will display each of the different regions that it includes. To do this, go to Structure > Blocks, and then click the Demonstrate block regions link.

After you’ve finished reviewing the different regions that are available for your theme, click Exit block region demonstration.
