What are share links, embed codes, and embed links?

Share links, embed codes, and embed links are used to share DAM assets with others. You’ll see them as options when you share single assets within DAM. Note that the image below shows the updated share experience, which is slightly different from the legacy one.

Single links are URLs that you send to a recipient so they can view and download an asset. You can send these links directly to someone through a message or email. Share links are unique to each person who obtains them and are public once they're created, so anyone can access them if they have the link, as long as the asset is released and not expired.

In the updated share experience, the links include the
asset ID and look like this:
https://eudaimonia.widencollective.com/assets/share/asset/7kjovphcq8

In the legacy experience, they include the filename of the asset and look like this:
https://eudaimonia.widen.net/s/nmdp9l9nls/explorer_green

Embed code

Embed codes are blocks of HTML text you can embed in a CMS, website, or other online source while maintaining central control of the code from your DAM site. When assets are updated in the DAM, embed codes are automatically updated on linked websites, ensuring the most current view of assets to always display. Embed codes remain available even when your DAM site is being upgraded for DAM software releases or when the site is unavailable due to maintenance.

Embed links are a direct link to the asset without the surrounding HTML text. You might use this option when you’re linking to the asset from a CMS, but don’t need the HTML text wrapper.

This option is only available in the updated share experience and looks like this:

Image size options

When sharing embed codes and embed links for images, you can select from several pre-determined sizes. In the legacy share experience, you can do this with share links as well.

For images, there are two default dimensions for share links and embed codes:

  • 640 px (landscape)
  • 640 px (portrait)

Other sizes can be created and set for your site by an admin. Users can also create their own customized share links and embed codes

Sharing videos

Share links and embed codes can be used to place videos on websites. To share a video with someone and allow them to simply view it, we recommend using a share link.

There are a few different options for links and embed codes:

  • The Video with Player option is the most common.
  • The Video with Player and Download option allows the viewer to download the video.
  • For more advanced users, the Video (No Player) option allows you to use our video hosting, build a video player user interface, or use the browser's default player. Note that if you're viewing videos in IE, IE does not have a default video player, so all audio and video files must be opened in Microsoft Media Player. If you don't have Microsoft Media Player, we recommend you download it or talk with your IT team about configuring IE to use a different video player.
  • The Video Thumbnail option gives you a share link or embed code for the video preview image.

Sharing PDFs

There are a number of share link and embed code options available to you to share PDF documents.

  • Document View and Download opens the PDF in a browser and allows others to download it.
  • Document View - HTML5 allows others to view the PDF in HTML5.
  • Document View - PDF embeds the file to allow the original PDF to be found using Google searches.
  • Thumbnail is just the thumbnail image of the PDF. Note that the height of the thumbnail can be adjusted in the HTML text, and the default height is 300 px.
  • Asset Download Link allows the recipient to automatically download the PDF.

Embed codes when sites are down

Embed codes and links stay active even if the DAM experiences downtime.
