Q: What is changing and how does it affect my site?

Acquia is upgrading the operating system on our load balancer infrastructure from Ubuntu 20.04 to 22.04. This is a security and stability update. 

Q: Do I need to do anything to prepare?

No action is required from you. This is a managed upgrade, meaning Acquia handles the entire process. 

Q: Will my site go down during the upgrade?

Acquia does not expect any downtime. Acquia performs these upgrades by relaunching load balancers in pairs. While one is being updated, the other remains active to handle your traffic. However, you will experience a temporary reduction in high availability (HA) during the window because only one balancer will be active at a time.

Q: Will there be any performance impact?

Yes, there is a minor, temporary impact to be aware of. To ensure a smooth transition, Acquia fail over Elastic IPs (EIPs) between the balancers, which clears your Varnish cache. As a result, you may see a temporary increase in response times immediately following the update while the cache rebuilds.

• Acquia Cloud Enterprise: Starting 16 February 2026

Q: Why are we doing this now? Didn't I already upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04?

You likely updated your application’s operating system to Ubuntu 22.04. This is a configurable setting in the Cloud Platform user interface. This scheduled upgrade is different. This upgrade focuses on the software running on the load balancer infrastructure itself, which Acquia maintains as part of the shared responsibility model. 

Q: Can I reschedule my maintenance window?

As this is a massive, fleet-wide update, Acquia cannot guarantee rescheduling. However, if you have a high-traffic event or a major launch that conflicts with your window, please contact Acquia Support immediately after you receive your notification, and we will do our best to coordinate.

Q: What happens if something goes wrong during the upgrade?

We have automated failovers in place. In the worst-case scenario, where a node fails to relaunch, your traffic is automatically routed to the healthy node in the pair. The Acquia engineering teams monitor these transitions in real-time to resolve any issues before they impact your site's availability.

Q: How can I tell if my upgrade is finished?

Once the maintenance window provided in your notification email has passed, your upgrade is complete. You can also monitor your site performance. When your response times return to their normal baseline, it indicates the Varnish cache has successfully rebuilt on the new infrastructure.

Q: Where can I find more updates during the rollout?

Acquia will post a general notice on the Acquia Maintenance site regarding the ongoing fleet upgrades. For specific details regarding your individual site, rely on the direct email notifications, as these provide the most accurate timeline for your infrastructure.
