Display names for assets in portals give users more context about what they're seeing. While filenames can be helpful, sometimes they're too long to display entirely or they're unclear. (DMG_1244, anyone?) With display names, metadata that's associated with a field of type "text field" or "limited text" in Acquia DAM can be used. Don't worry - filenames can also be used. Names will display below assets in portal sections.
Enable display names from Settings > General Settings within a portal section. Names can be enabled in each section of the portal or in just one or two sections.
After selecting to display names, the following shows in the Live Editor for the display name: [Display name: metadata field]. For example, if you selected the Title field, [Display name: Title] will appear. If you select to display the filename, the filename itself will show in the Live Editor and when you preview the portal.
Note that, if Permissioned is selected as the view setting for a metadata field, the field will not display as an option for filenames.
Due to technical limitations, the best way to see exactly what will display below an asset is to preview the portal. Assets without the metadata field selected in the DAM, or assets where that metadata field has no value, will be left blank.
What if you don’t have metadata that would work as an alternate name? In that situation, we recommend adding a new field. However, create a field like Display Name rather than Portal Name, because the Display Name field will likely be useful in other areas of the site.
Be aware that only one metadata field can be selected for the display name. Dependent metadata fields cannot be used for display names.
