How do I create metadata types?

Metadata types include metadata fields that display for assets on your Acquia DAM. Each grouping of metadata fields is defined by the metadata type. There can be multiple metadata types.

During implementation, you'll define the metadata for assets. For example, image assets may need different metadata fields than video or document assets, or different brand assets may each need different metadata fields. After your site has been created and as you upload new assets, you can create new metadata types.

Create metadata types

To create metadata types:

  1. Go to the Admin app.
  2. Click Metadata types under Search Settings in the left navigation.
  3. Click Create type.
  4. Add a name for the type in the Label field.
  5. Click Create.

Rename metadata types

When changes are made to assets in your site, you may need to update the name of an existing metadata type. Do so by simply clicking Rename for a type.

Permissions

Administrating metadata types is based on permissions. You must have the Administrate Metadata Types permission to be able to create and edit metadata types and fields.

Access to view and edit metadata types is also based on permissions. To select permissions that can view and edit metadata types:

  1. Go to the Admin app.
  2. Click Metadata types under Search Settings in the left navigation.
  3. Click a metadata type.
  4. Click the gray bar of the metadata field to set permissions.
  5. In the View and Edit dropdowns in the right column, select Yes to allow users with permission to view or edit the metadata type. Select No to not allow users with permission, except DAM admins, to view and edit the metadata field. To customize roles that can view and edit metadata, choose Permissioned from the Required dropdown, select the role(s) that have permission to view or edit metadata, then click Save.
  6. Click Save.

Permissions can be set to make certain metadata fields required for all users (by selecting Yes), no users (by selecting No), or only certain users (by selecting Permissioned), then selecting the roles for which the fields are required.
