This guide contains definitions and explanations of acronyms and abbreviations used in the Acquia Optimize user guide, presented in alphabetical order.
- 2FA: The acronym for Two-Factor Authentication, used interchangeably with 2FV.
- 2FV: The acronym for Two-Factor Verification, used interchangeably with 2FA.
- ACS URL: The acronym for Assertion Consumer Service. It tells the IdP where to redirect an authenticated user after sign-in.
- ACT: The acronym for Accessibility Conformance Testing. It is an officially published accessibility testing standard, designed to ensure that web content conforms to the accessibility standards set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
- AES: The acronym for Advanced Encryption Standard. It is a specification of electronic data encryption, established by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2001.
- ALT attribute: The abbreviation for Alternative Attribute. This refers to the HTML attribute used in HTML and XHTML documents to specify alternative text that is to be displayed in place of an element (for example, an image) that cannot be rendered. Useful for sight-impaired users who use a screen reader, for example.

- APA: Australia's Privacy Act includes thirteen codes of conduct with regards to the disclosure of personal information. Websites, companies, and organizations that operate in Australia must follow these codes of conduct in order to be compliant.
- API: The acronym for Application Programming Interface. It is a connection between computers or between computer programs.
- ARIA: The acronym for Accessible Rich Internet Applications. A set of attributes you can add to HTML elements that define ways to make web content and applications accessible to users who depend on assistive technologies (AT) to access website content. When accessibility issues cannot be managed with native HTML, ARIA can help bridge those gaps.
- AT: The acronym for Assistive Technologies.
- BAA: The acronym for Business Associate Agreement. A legal document between a healthcare provider and a contractor.
- BI: The acronym for Business Intelligence.
- BITV: The acronym for Barrier-Free Information Technology Ordinance, a web accessibility standards regulation for websites in Germany as well as websites in the German language.
- CCPA: The acronym for the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018.
- CD: The acronym for Continuous Delivery or Continuous Deployment.
- CI: The acronym for Continuous Integration.
- CJEU: The acronym for the European Court of Justice.
- COI: The acronym for Certificate of Insurance. It is a document from an insurer to show you have business insurance.
- Cookies: Cookies are small data files that are saved on your device. They are processed and stored through a web browser. Cookies are not files that can contain harmful programs or viruses, and they are generally easily viewed and deleted. Cookies can collect IP address information and then be used to track online activity. They can potentially identify you, and therefore they can be considered as personal data in some circumstances. Cookies can be used for several purposes. Most commonly, cookies are used to record the way a website is seen and experienced.
- CMS: The acronym for Content Management System.
- CSR: The acronym for CSR - Client Side Rendering.
- CSS: The acronym for Cascading Style Sheets. It is a declarative language that controls the style and layout of a webpage as it is seen in the browser.
- DAM: The acronym for Digital Asset Management.
- DEK: The acronym for Data Encryption Key.
- DLP: The acronym for Data Loss Prevention.
- doc: The abbreviation for Document. When preceded by a period (.doc) it refers to a filename extension used for word-processing documents that are stored on Microsoft's proprietary Microsoft Word Binary File Format.
- docx: The acronym for Document XML Standard. It is a Microsoft Word Open XML Format Document.
- DPA: The acronym for Data Processing Agreement.
- DPF: The acronym for Data Privacy Framework.
- DPoD: The acronym for Data Protection on Demand.
- DXP: The acronym for Digital Experience Platform.
- EDPB: The acronym for the European Data Protection Board.
- EKM: The acronym for External Key Management.

- EULA: The acronym for End-User License Agreement.
- FISA: The acronym for the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

- FTP: The acronym for File Transfer Protocol, a network protocol that is used to transfer files between computers through a network or the internet.
- GA: The acronym for Google Analytics.
- GCP: The acronym for Google Cloud Platform.
- GCS: The acronym for Google Cloud Storage.
- GDPR: The acronym for General Data Protection Regulation. A European Union regulation on Information privacy in the European Union and the European Economic Area.
- GUID: The acronym for Globally Unique Identifier. It is a 128-bit label used for information in computer systems. This acronym is used most often by Microsoft systems. See also UUID.
- HHS: The acronym for the US Department of Health and Human Services (USA).
- HIPAA: The acronym for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 prohibits healthcare providers and healthcare businesses from disclosing protected information to anyone other than a patient and the patient's authorized representatives without their consent.
- hreflang: The abbreviation for an HTML tag that indicates the content language and geographical location that each individual page is targeted for. Hreflang tags tell Google which page is for which language.
- HSM: The acronym for Hardware Security Module.
- HTTPS: The acronym for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure.
- IaaS: The acronym for Infrastructure as a Service.
- ICO: The acronym for the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office.
- IdP or IDP: The abbreviation for Identity Provider. It is a system entity that creates, maintains, and manages identity information.
- ID Theft Red Flags rule: A regulation by the FTC (USA). "The Red Flags Rule requires many businesses and organizations to implement a written identity theft prevention program designed to detect the “red flags” of identity theft in their day-to-day operations, take steps to prevent the crime, and mitigate its damage." - JS: The abbreviation for JavaScript. It is is a programming language that is often used as the scripting language for web pages.

- KEK: The acronym for Key Encryption Key.
- Lang attribute: The abbreviation for Language Attribute. The lang attribute specifies the language of the element's content in HTML.
- MFA: The acronym for Multi-Factor Authentication.
- NDA: The acronym for Non-Disclosure Agreement.
- NPPI: The acronym for Non-Public Personal Information.
- Open Source: A specific approach to software development and distribution, where the source code of a computer program is made freely available to the public.
- OTP: The acronym for One-Time Password.
- OWASP: The acronym for the Open Worldwide Application Security Project. It is an online community that produces freely available articles, methodologies, documentation, tools, and technologies in the field of web application security.

- PaaS: The acronym for Platform as a Service.
- PDF: The acronym for "Portable Document Format". It is a document file format developed by Adobe.
- PHI: The acronym for Protected Health Information (USA).
- PIPEDA: The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act of Canada applies to transfers of personal information to a third party operating outside of Canada.

- PNG: The acronym for Portable Network Graphic. A high-quality digital image compression format.
- PPT: The acronym for "PowerPoint Presentation". PPT is the default presentation format for Microsoft Office 97-2003. PPT files are saved to the disc as binary files.
- PPTX: The acronym for "Microsoft PowerPoint Open XML". PPTX files are saved in Office Open XML format.
- RBAC: The acronym for Role-Based Access Control.
- RCO: The acronym for Recovery Consistency Objective.
- regex: The abbreviation for Regular Expression.
- RESTful: The abbreviation for Representational State Transfer, an application programming interface.
- RPO: The acronym for Recovery Point Objective.
- RTO: The acronym for Recovery Time Objective.
- SaaS: The acronym for Software as a Service.
- SAML2: The acronym for Security Assertion Markup Language 2.0.
- SCC: The acronym for Standard Contractual Clause.
- Section 508: Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, a set of accessibility criteria in the USA. The guidelines are aligned with and are replaced by WCAG 2.0.
- SEO: The acronym for Search Engine Optimization.
- SHIELD: The Privacy Shield Program Overview is a mechanism to comply with data protection requirements when transferring personal data from the European Union and Switzerland to the United States in support of transatlantic commerce.
- SLA: The acronym for Service Level Agreement.
- SOC: The acronym for System and Organization Controls.
- SP: The acronym for Service Provider.
- SPA: The acronym for Single Page Application.
- SSO: The acronym for Single Sign-On.

- URI: The acronym for Uniform Resorce Identifier, used to redirect users to an application page that gives the user a link to sign in again.
- URL: The acronym for Uniform Resource Locator, commonly referred to as a web address.
- USB: The acronym for Universal Serial Bus. An industry standard to connect devices, transfer data, and power hosts.
