The Optimize Web Accessibility feature helps you make your website compliant with WCAG 2.1 & 2.2 A, AA, and AAA guidelines to make the website accessible for a wider audience.

The specifically developed Optimize tools and technologies help you improve your website to aid the perception, understanding, contribution, navigation, and interaction for visitors with a disability. The four principles of web accessibility are the foundations of content produced for the web and for anyone who wants to use the web. They outline that web content needs to be:

Clarity PDF Remediation

Optimize has teamed up with CommonLook®, a world-leading provider of PDF software, to make their powerful Clarity tool available as an add-on within our Accessibility module.

During a normal domain scan, we find PDFs, and with Clarity offer services for the most common accessibility problems, including the proper tagging of images, tables, forms, and other non-textual objects.

  • Review: Scan PDFs from the Accessibility module to see where your site stands in terms of PDF accessibility and flag inaccessible documents.

  • Report: Receive a complete accessibility report detailing areas of non-compliance and recommendations on how to address them.

  • Remediate: Remediate and tag all of your PDF documents with Optimize so that they can be read using assistive technology and become accessible to all.

PDF errors are identified and communicated, allowing users to comply with ADA Title III, WCAG 2.1, HHS, PDF/UA, the EU Web Accessibility Directive, and other accessibility standards.

Notes:

  • Section 508 is now fully aligned with WCAG 2.0 AA. Optimize has transferred existing users of the check to WCAG 2.0 AA.

  • EU customers have to contact our partner Commonlook directly for PDF remediation quotes at their own discretion due to regulatory requirements. The PDF Remediation option continues to be available for customers in other geographical regions.

For more information, see the user guide articles:

Heatmaps

The Optimize Heatmaps add-on tool is script-based. The tool uses a warm-to-cold color scheme to show you exactly how your web pages are performing. Get a wealth of insights on how visitors actually interact with your pages, identify problem areas, and make targeted improvements to ensure a better visitor experience.

Choose between 3 different heat map types:

  • Move: Shows where desktop visitors moved across the page with the mouse.

  • Click: Shows the points on the page where visitors tapped or clicked.

  • Scroll: Shows how far visitors scrolled down the pages.

This module requires the Optimize script.

For more information, see the user guide articles:

Mobile Accessibility Scans

When Mobile Accessibility is enabled, Optimize makes an additional scan of the website to simulate how it renders on a mobile device. This data is used to pick up device-specific code that only loads when a website opens on a mobile device. Based on this mobile rendition of the website, Optimize is able to perform two additional checks in addition to the accessibility checks that already run on the website.

Essentially, these two checks determine if a web page is properly responsive. Responsiveness is a basic requirement for having an accessible website. The checks are displayed in the Optimize UI and can be filtered out of the other checks. They are also displayed in the Optimize Browser Extension.

Check 1: Is pinch-to-zoom disabled?

Check 2: Does the web page require two-dimensional scrolling?

For more information, see the user guide article:

Industry Average

Industry Average is an industrial benchmark model that measures the overall health of your website against your industry standards. It allows users to compare their website compliance scores for Quality Assurance, Accessibility, and SEO against the industry average. The industry average score automatically identifies areas in your website that can be improved, and provides you with simple steps to make your website stand out in your industry.

The Industry Average Score is the average score within the industry. The Industry Average Score appears in the Diagnostics section for the relevant modules:

  • Quality Assurance

  • Accessibility

  • SEO.

For more information, see the user guide article:

The audit log tracks the following:

  • Date: The date of the change

  • User ID: The identifier for the user account that made the change

  • Domain: The domain that was changed

  • Module: The Optimize module that was used to make the change

Statistics

The Statistics module is script-based. Statistics overviews are available in the main summary. For more detailed statistics, click to expand the menu options in the left menu bar. Each of the main categories expands into several sub-categories, for a higher resolution of detail.

Statistics provides a number of useful analytics, giving insights on such things as entry and exit pages, bounce rates, session times, and page visitor details.

The Statistics feature tracks the following:

  • Total Visits: The total number of visits.
  • Total Visitors: The total number of visitors.
  • PageView: The total number of page view (per page).
  • Average visit time: The average amount of time a visitor spends on the page.
  • Bounce Rate: Percentage of visitors that bounce. This indicates that the visitor entered the site and then left, and did not continue to view other pages within the same site.

This feature requires the Optimize script.

For more information, see the user guide articles:

Event Tracking

The Optimize Statistics feature can track events on your website. The Event Tracking feature lets users monitor and track the number of clicks on each button or link and use this data to improve the browsing experience for your website visitors.

For more information, see the user guide articles:

Cookieless Tracking

The Statistics feature normally applies a cookie to the browser of the visitor. It is possible to remove this, so that Optimize can track the same data from visitors who refuse statistics cookies on the cookie banner.

Note: If Cookieless Tracking is enabled, the statistics from the cookie consent banner are not shown. This means that if you switch from cookie banner only to Cookieless Tracking, you might see a jump in the figures because the data is counted in a different way.

The data tracked includes browsing behavior, geographical location, device information, and more.

For more information, see the user guide articles:

CMS Integration

You can easily install the Optimize script on a website that deploys with a CMS. Optimize integrates with WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal via a plugin and integrates with all other content management systems via our API or the Optimize Web Browser Extension.

Most modern CMS systems provide an easy way to add custom scripts to web pages. The Optimize script should be included in the page header, so that the snippet appears before the closing </head> tag on every web page of the site that needs to be tracked. Refer to the CMS manual or ask for help from the CMS vendor on how to install custom scripts on all pages. If there is a guide for the CMS that describes how to install the Google Analytics™ script, this guide may also be used to install the Optimize script.

When the script is installed, Optimize highlights errors on the page where they occur. If you have access to the Analytics module, statistics are shown immediately.

For instructions on how to set up a scan for a site that uses a CMS, see the user guide article:

For advanced instructions for developers on how to install the Optimize script on a website that deploys with a CMS, see:

Hosting

We provide our customers with the fastest performance available with local hosting via Google. Optimize’s data is processed and hosted on local Google servers in the United States, Europe, and Australia. Optimize scans publicly available data on the public website.
