Configuring region and language settings

Before setting up multilingual content, you must configure the regional settings for your site:

  • Regional Settings: Time zone and locale preferences.

    • Match your primary audience location.

    • Consider content date/time display needs.

  • Languages: Languages in which site content can be displayed.

    • Combine language detection methods for optimal user experience.

      Order of language detection methods for content: URL (path prefixes or domains), Session, User preferences, Browser settings, and Default language

  • Content Language and Translation: Apply translation to content types and fields.

    • Ensure consistent language support across all site elements, including menus, labels, and error messages.

Configuring regional settings

Use the following steps to configure regional settings for your site:

  1. Access your site.
  2. In the left sidebar, click Configuration > Regional and language > Regional settings.
  3. Configure the default country, first day of the week, and default time zone.
  4. Click Save configuration.

    These regional settings provide the foundation for language-specific date, time, and number formatting.
