This page explains how to enable translation capabilities for content entities and site configurations. Administrators must define translatable fields and update configuration groups to prepare the site for symmetric translations.
Configuring content language and translation
Prerequisites
To configure language and translation settings for content entities:
- Access your site.
- From the left navigation menu, click Configuration.
- Select Regional and language.
- Select Content language and translation.
For Custom language settings, select the checkboxes for the entity types to configure. For example, select Content, Media, Page, and Taxonomy term.
The system displays an expandable section for each selected entity type.
- Expand the specific section to define the translatable fields.
Select the Translatable checkbox to enable translation for the required entity subtype.
Select the corresponding checkboxes for the individual fields to translate.
- Click Save configuration.
After a successful save, the following occurs:
- A confirmation message opens to indicate that the settings are updated.
- Translation becomes enabled for the selected entity and configured fields to ensure that users translate content in those fields.
Configuring configuration translation
Prerequisites
- Users must possess the Configuration translation permission to translate site configuration entities. For more information, visit Managing roles and permissions.
To translate site configuration:
- Access your site.
- From the left navigation menu, click Configuration.
- Select Regional and language.
- Select Configuration translation.
- Locate the configuration item in the Label column, and click the corresponding List or Translate option in the Operations column.
Locate the target language in the Language column, and click Add in the Operations column.
A translation dialog box opens. The dialog box displays the original text next to the corresponding fields to input the translated text.
- Enter the translated text in the corresponding fields.
- Click Save translation.
After a successful translation is saved, the following occurs:
- A confirmation message opens to indicate that the configuration translation is saved.
- The translated configuration becomes available when the selected language is active on the site.
