If I delete a component type, will it delete my content?

Yes. If you delete a component type, then all instances of the component on the layout canvas will be removed, along with their content.
Deleting a component type will remove the component from your website. All instances where the component is placed on the layout canvas will be removed. All content added to the component will be removed along with the component.
