Using Acquia DAM media in Drupal Canvas

This document provides instructions to manage Acquia DAM (Widen) media in Drupal Canvas.

Supported media

Source CMS supports the following Acquia DAM (Widen) media types in Drupal Canvas:

• Images

• Videos

Prerequisites

• Integrate your Acquia DAM (Widen) with Source CMS. For instructions, refer to Setting up Acquia DAM (Widen) integration.

Adding an Acquia DAM image

To add an Acquia DAM (Widen) image to a page in Drupal Canvas:

1. Access your site.

2. On the top right, click Edit to open Drupal Canvas.
3. On the top center, click the page title to open the navigator.
4. Select the page where you want to add an image.
5. In the toolbar on the left, click the Library (+) icon to open the Component Library.
6. Drag the Image component, use the purple guideline to position it, and drop it where you want it on the page.
7. In the right sidebar, click Add media.
8. If the system prompts you to authenticate with Acquia DAM (Widen), click Authenticate. 
   Note

   The system requires this authentication step only the first time you access the media.

Adding an Acquia DAM (Widen) video

Add Acquia DAM (Widen) video assets to a page through the DAM Video component. The component renders a native HTML video player and resolves the video directly from Acquia DAM (Widen) CDN without additional configuration.

To add an Acquia DAM (Widen) video to a page in Drupal Canvas:

1. Access your site.
2. On the top right, select Edit to open Drupal Canvas.
3. On the top center, select the page title to open the navigator.
4. Navigate to the page where you want to add a video.
5. In the toolbar on the left, select the Library (+) icon to open the Component Library.
6. Drag the DAM Video component, use the purple guideline to position it, and drop it where you want it on the page.
7. In the right sidebar, select Add media.
8. If the system prompts you to authenticate with Acquia DAM (Widen), click Authenticate. 
   Note

   The system requires this authentication step only the first time you access the media.

9. Verify that is selected in the Select media source list.

Configuring video playback

After video insertion, adjust the playback behavior from the Settings tab in the right panel.

The DAM Video component provides the following options:

• Show Controls: Displays the native playback controls such as play, pause, volume, and timeline. This option is enabled by default.
• Autoplay: Starts playing the video when the page loads. This option is disabled by default. Most browsers require the video to be muted for autoplay to take effect.
• Loop: Restarts the video after it reaches the end. This option is disabled by default.
• Muted: Plays the video without audio. This option is disabled by default.

• Play Inline: Plays the video directly inside the component on the page to prevent a full-screen display. This option is important on iOS and mobile devices, where videos open in the native full-screen player by default. Enable this option to force the video to remain embedded in the page layout.

  The Acquia DAM (Widen) asset provides the poster image of the video and displays it before the video plays.

Downloaded video assets

If the Acquia DAM (Widen) media type is configured to download assets, the DAM Video component serves the video from the local file that Source CMS downloaded. If a downloaded file is not available, the component falls back to streaming the video directly from Acquia DAM (Widen) CDN. This behavior requires no additional action.

To add an Acquia DAM (Widen) image to a page in Drupal Canvas:

1. Access your site.

2. On the top right, click Edit to open Drupal Canvas.
3. On the top center, click the page title to open the navigator.
4. Select the page where you want to add an image.
5. In the toolbar on the left, click the Library (+) icon to open the Component Library.
6. Drag the Image component, use the purple guideline to position it, and drop it where you want it on the page.
7. In the right sidebar, click Add media.
8. If the system prompts you to authenticate with Acquia DAM (Widen), click Authenticate.

9. Verify that Acquia DAM (Widen) is selected in the Select media source dropdown.

10. Search and select the required image, and then click Insert selected.

    The selected Acquia DAM (Widen) image is added to the page.

Add Acquia DAM (Widen) video assets to a page through the DAM Video component. The component renders a native HTML video player and resolves the video directly from Acquia DAM (Widen) CDN without additional configuration.
