Accessibility checks update - October 2023

Acquia Optimize has performed a round of periodic updates to our accessibility checks to improve the overall quality of accessibility scans.

An orange line with the label "Accessibility checks update" on your charts and tables in the Accessibility module indicates when your domain started scanning with the updated versions of checks.

All checks are updated automatically and Acquia Optimize users do not need to do anything in order to take advantage of the changes. However, as a consequence of the update, be aware that your accessibility compliance score may change.

In the following section, we provide details on the specific updates to the various accessibility checks as part of this release.

Removed checks

Check name: Words and phrases not in the document's primary language are marked.

Affected guidelines: WCAG 2.0 A, WCAG 2.1 A. The check remains in place at an AA level.

Check name: The luminosity contrast ratio between text and background color in all images is at least 4.5:1.

Affected guidelines: WCAG 2.0 A, WCAG 2.1 A. The check remains in place at an AA level.

Added checks

Check name: Links inside text are distinguishable.

Check type: Error.

Affected guidelines: All.

Check name: Autoplaying audible Multimedia can be shut down.

Check type: Warning.

Affected guidelines: All.

Moved checks

Check name: The luminosity contrast ratio between text and background color in all images is at least 5:1.

Details: Moved from section 1.4.1 (A) to section 1.4.3 (AA).

Updated checks

Check name: Data tables that contain both row and column headers use the scope attribute to identify cells.

Affected guidelines: All.

Check name: Provide sufficient contrast between text and background colors.

Check name: Link text colour must contrast sufficiently with its background color.
