How do I add details to products?

If you have permission, you can add and edit details for your products – like product descriptions or other marketing copy, featured or related assets, technical specifications, and more. To do this, select a product’s SKU on the Products page. From there, you can add details on the product details page.

On the details page, you’ll see:

  • A featured image for the product
  • A Details section that includes the SKU, product type, and any applicable categories
  • Attributes that are applied to the product
  • Any variants of the product
  • A history of changes made to the product details

Add assets to products

Associate up to 50 assets, like product and lifestyle images, short-form videos, and brochures, from the Assets app to your products.

Attributes are listed in each attribute group on the product details page. Assets that are associated to the attribute are displayed in a carousel format. Add, preview, and remove assets from within the carousel. Only the assets you have permission to view that are released and not expired will be displayed.

You can associate assets to products in four ways:
  • On the product page in Entries
  • With Imports in Entries
  • After uploading assets
  • Through a native integration

Associate assets on the product page in Entries

Associate one or multiple assets to the attribute by selecting Add, then searching for assets. If your SKUs are in filenames or metadata fields, those assets, rather than all assets, will display first in search results. Change or clear the SKU from the search to add more assets to products. You won’t see unreleased and expired assets in search results or be able to associate them to the attribute.

Associate assets with Imports in Entries

On the Imports page in Entries, you can associate assets to products by manual CSV or XLSX import or scheduled FTP import. Read the article on importing products for detailed instructions.

Associate assets after uploading

If you have permission, you can upload assets to Acquia DAM and add them to an Entries product from the Review and Edit page. Select the assets you want to associate, then select the Add to button and choose Product.

Search for the product name or SKU, then assign the assets to an attribute for that product. Once you select Add, the assets will display on the product details page in Entries.

Associate assets through a native integration

You can set up a native integration to automatically associate assets to attributes as new products are created or updated in Entries, as new assets are uploaded to Assets, or asset metadata values change.

Add attributes

Attributes that are not already included for the product can be added by clicking Add attribute. This allows for flexibility in enriching product details without needing to create a new product type for unique products.

A list of attributes that aren’t currently included for the product will display. Choose an attribute, then add or update any values. Values apply only to the specific product, not other products that have the same product type assigned.

Edit attribute values

Certain product details can be changed when you’re reviewing product information on the individual product page. For example, say the MSRP changed for a new bicycle your company is sending to market and you need to update the amount. Click Edit, then head to the Sales info section to add a new value, then save it.

For text attributes, the description can be up to 32,000 characters. Attributes with controlled vocabulary values can have a maximum of 300 values.

For any attribute values that cannot be edited, a lock icon displays. Locked values are typically those that are managed in a product lifecycle management (PLM) or enterprise resource planning system (ERP). If those values are updated in the PLM or ERP, they can be exported via CSV from those platforms, then imported into Entries.

Any edit made to attributes on the product details page will only apply to that product; updates do not modify the attributes listed in attribute groups.

See variants of the product

If there are any variants of the product, you'll see the Variants tab on the product details page, along with the number of variants.

See a history of changes to products

When changes are made to products, the old and new values, along with more details are displayed in the History tab on the product details page. Click the tab to see event details, including the field that changed and when it changed, old and new values, and more details, including the name of the person who made the change. Most recent changes are listed first, and up to 1,000 events are listed.

All users who have access to Entries can see the product history.

Need more information about changes? Select More details for the event to see the product field that changed, the name of the person who made the change, time and date of when the change was made, all old and new values, and fully formatted text attributes.

In addition, the way the change was made is also displayed when you select More details. Those ways include manual import of a CSV (excluding scheduled imports), scheduled FTP imports, in-app changes on the product details page, or an API change. API and scheduled import changes are not associated with specific users.

Take action on the product

Need to change a product's type or category? Or rename or delete a product? Click the Actions button to accomplish those tasks.

Featured images display for each product on the product details page. They also display as thumbnails in the products list and on channel pages. If you export a CSV of a channel, featured images will also be exported and can be used as hero images in downstream channels.

Featured images may or may not be assigned to products. If a featured image hasn’t been assigned to a product, one can be added from the product details page. Click Set featured image to search for an image. Images from the Assets app that you have permission to view and that are released and not expired will be displayed. You can also add featured images through
product import

Only images can be selected as featured images, not documents or videos, and only one image can be chosen. Once a featured image is selected, anyone with access to Entries will see it.
