How do I use the CI HUB Connector in Figma and Sketch?

The CI HUB Connector allows you to connect Acquia DAM and the Entries app to other applications so you can efficiently access and work with the latest assets from the DAM and product information from Entries from within your other design tools. Quickly search and make updates to assets, then upload new versions to the DAM to keep everything in sync.

This article covers instructions for using the connector in Figma and Sketch. See the article for instructions on
how to use the connector in Adobe and Office 365.

Before using the connector, you’ll need to
download and install it. After installing, log in to either Figma or Sketch.

Find assets and product info

Open a document in the app you’d like to work in. You can find content by navigating folders or by search.

If you’d like to browse a list of all items, navigate by folder. Click the folder icon and the arrow next to Acquia DAM. If you select assets, categories, or collections, you’ll view content from DAM. Or, you can view only Entries products by selecting products in this list.

To search, click the search icon and enter keywords or terms.

From the dropdown by the search bar, select Assets to search filenames, file formats, metadata types and fields, categories, and collections from DAM. If you have Entries connected, you can select Products and search product content only. Enter a product name in the search bar. To search across both DAM and Entries, keep the default All filter selected.

Advanced searches, like exact and wildcard searches, can be performed in the connector. If you’d like to perform an advanced search, you’ll follow the same advanced search rules as you would in DAM.

View asset search results

Under Result, see the search results for DAM assets. You’ll only see assets you have permission to use in the DAM. You can view them in a tile, list, or detail view. Detail view will file details, along with display basic and custom metadata from DAM.

If the asset thumbnail has a rendition icon, it means that asset has a rendition – or conversion size – selected to be used in Figma or Sketch. These do match conversions in DAM. To change the rendition, click the icon, select a different size, and click Ok

Refine search results

To refine your results, you can apply filters. Note that the file type filter is built by Figma or Sketch and might not match the file type seen in DAM.

To search for assets within a DAM category or collection, click the folder icon, then select the breadcrumbs and click Categories or Collections. For collections, you’ll be able to select global, private, and shared ones you have access to in DAM.

When you select between Assets, Categories, and Collections in the dropdown, it’ll change which filters display below.

Place assets, metadata, or attributes

When you're ready, drag and drop the asset thumbnail or metadata into your Figma or Sketch design file, or right click on it and select Place. For Entries content, you’ll be dragging and dropping a product’s attributes like a SKU or description.

Once the asset is placed, you’ll see an embedded icon next to the filename in the connector panel, along with an Acquia DAM logo. The logo indicates that the asset is linked to DAM.

To relink assets, first check the status of an asset. You might want to periodically do this to see if an asset is released in DAM or if there’s a new version available in DAM. Click the Check status icon next to the filename.

Select the Relink icon to relink one or all assets in the design file to ones available in DAM.

You can also check for a matching asset in DAM by selecting the dropdown arrow next to the filename.

If there’s no matching asset in DAM, follow the steps below to upload the file to DAM.

Update assets in DAM

If you’ve made any changes to a file, you can update the asset in the DAM directly from Figma or Sketch. Select the asset in the connector panel search results and click the Update file icon. Then choose an upload profile and click Ok. In DAM, view the uploaded asset in search results or on the Uploads page.

The settings from the selected upload profile will determine if the updated file replaces an existing asset in DAM, adds the asset as a new version, or if the asset is conflicted.

Upload local files to DAM

Local files used in Figma and Sketch can be uploaded to the DAM using the connector.

In the search results, select Add file icon, then click the local file system and browse to add a local file. Rename it, if needed, and choose an upload profile. Click Ok. In DAM, you’ll see the uploaded asset in search results or on the Uploads page.

Upload Figma or Sketch design file to DAM

Within the connector panel search results, select the Add file icon. Select an active design file and enter a filename. Select an upload profile and click Ok

Delete assets from DAM

If you have permission to delete assets in the DAM, you can delete assets from the DAM using the CI HUB Connector. Select the asset from the connector panel search results and click the Delete asset icon.
