The CI HUB Connector allows you to connect Acquia DAM and the Entries app to other applications so you can efficiently access and work with the latest assets from the DAM and product information from Entries from within your other design tools. Quickly search and make updates to assets, then upload new versions to the DAM to keep everything in sync.
This article covers instructions for using the connector in Adobe and Office 365. See the article for instructions on how to use the connector in Figma and Sketch.
The connector can be used in the 2018 and later versions of these Adobe CC apps:
It can be used in these Office 365 apps:
Before using the connector, you’ll need to download and install it. After download, log in to either Adobe or Office 365 to get started.
Note for Photoshop users on Apple Silicon Macs:
There is an additional CI HUB Connector for Photoshop users on Macs with Apple Silicon chips (M1/M2/M3) who want a smoother experience. This connector supports Apple chips natively and uses the new UXP technology. It is only for Photoshop. If you are using an Apple Mac with a Silicon chip, you can use this plugin in Photoshop without starting Photoshop in Rosetta mode.
Open a document in the app you’d like to work in. You can find content by navigating folders or by search.
If you’d like to browse a list of all items, navigate by folder. Click the folder icon and the arrow next to Acquia DAM. If you select assets, categories, or collections, you’ll view content from DAM. Or, you can view only Entries products by selecting products in this list.
To search, click the search icon and enter keywords or terms.
From the dropdown by the search bar, select Assets to search filenames, file formats, metadata types and fields, categories, and collections from DAM. If you have Entries connected, you can select Products and search product content only. Enter a product name in the search bar. To search across both DAM and Entries, keep the default All filter selected.
Advanced searches, like exact and wildcard searches, can be performed in the connector. If you’d like to use the advanced search, follow the instructions for the type of search, which are listed in the “How do I search for assets?” article.
Under Result, see the search results for DAM assets. You’ll only see assets you have permission to use in DAM. You can view them in a tile, list, or detail view. Settings are available for each view, like hiding filenames and choosing sizes for asset previews.
In the settings for list and tile views, you can select to hide conversion notes under the tooltip settings in both of those views. By selecting that option, you won’t be notified if the original version is available locally for use and the connector won’t remember the last format that was selected for download and download that of future formats.
In detail view, see basic metadata for an asset when you’re in search results. In categories and collection folders, basic and custom metadata display in detail view. Switch between the two before or after searching.
After searching, filters will display to further refine your search. As you refine, tags will display to confirm filters have been applied.
To search by category, select the folder navigation icon, then choose Categories from Acquia DAM navigation. Select a category to see included assets or narrow to find child categories. Click the breadcrumbs to choose other child or parent categories.
To search by collection, select the folder navigation icon, then choose Collections from Acquia DAM navigation.
Choose to see global, private, and shared collections. Select a collection to see assets included within.
Search results for products in Entries looks a bit different. You’ll see a list of product names. By default, product parents are filtered out of the results and you’ll only see solo products and variants listed. If you’d like to include parent products, select Include Parent in Result from the filter dropdown.
Select a product from the list to view its attributes. If you’d like to see the parent attributes for a variant product in the detailed view, select the filter Add Parent Attributes.
When you’re ready, drag and drop the asset thumbnail or metadata into your document. For Entries content, you’ll be dragging and dropping a product’s attributes like a SKU or description.
In Adobe, original asset files will automatically download locally to your computer as you drag and drop, although you can change that in the download settings. To do that, select an asset, then the Use file icon, and update the target folder. Adobe apps require use of the local file.
Office 365 does not require use of local files, so nothing will download as you drag assets into documents.
When using asset files in Adobe or Office 365, choose to download either the original or low-resolution conversion format, if available. Whatever selection you make will be applied to future downloads.
Additional options can be selected for files. In Adobe, place and link, replace an existing, open in an app, or save locally. In Office 365, place, open in an app, or save locally. (You can also perform these actions by right clicking on a file in search results.)
Last, you’ll have the option in Adobe to apply clipping paths, layers, or color profiles or to choose pages of multiple-page PDFs. Click With place options to make any of those selections.
You can link assets from your Adobe document to the DAM using the connector. Linking is not supported in Office 365. When an asset is placed in your document, it’s considered linked to DAM. An Acquia icon displays to the left of the filename in the Links panel after linking. A green computer icon displays to the right of the filename for assets that are available locally. If an asset isn’t available locally, the computer icon will be red.
To check the status of a single linked asset (e.g., if it’s available locally, if it’s released in the DAM), click the Check status icon next to the filename.
A status check must be done before links are updated. The link icon will be blue if updates to links are needed.
If there are other versions of the asset available in the DAM, you’ll see a blue exclamation point icon. Select the dropdown arrow before the filename and choose a version. If an asset isn’t available locally or in DAM, you’ll see a red exclamation point icon. Follow the steps below to upload the file to DAM.
If you’ve made changes to a file, you can update the asset in DAM from Adobe or Office 365. Select the file and choose the Update file icon, then select an upload profile and click OK. In DAM, view the uploaded asset in search results or on the Uploads page.
The settings from the selected upload profile will determine if the updated file replaces an existing asset, adds the asset as a new version, or if the asset is conflicted.
InDesign documents can be uploaded to the DAM using the connector. Save the document, then ensure the folder navigation for the connector is Acquia DAM or Acquia DAM / Assets.
Select Add file, then click active InDesign document and choose the saved file. Update the filename, if needed, then choose an upload profile.
Select With PDF to upload a separate PDF with the same filename to DAM or choose to package all files as a ZIP file. Click OK, and a ZIP, PDF, and INDD files will be uploaded to the DAM. View the uploaded asset in search results or on the Uploads page.
Need to make an update to an original file? You can do that in InDesign by editing the original or editing with, then choosing the app in which to make updates. Remember to link the asset in InDesign when you’re done!
You could also make any changes to files in a different app and upload them to the DAM, then relink them in Adobe.
If you have permission to delete assets in the DAM, you can delete assets from the DAM using the CI HUB Connector. Select a file from search results and click Delete asset from the Details section.
