Introduction

Uptime Monitoring (previously Heartbeat) is an active URL availability check module. It makes periodic HTTP requests to registered URLs and records whether each server returns a successful response within an acceptable response time.

Primary use cases:

• Detect when pages of an observed site go offline.
• Track server response time trends.
• Alert responsible stakeholders immediately when a site is slow or unreachable.
• Schedule maintenance windows (exemptions) so that planned downtime does not distort SLA metrics.

Navigation

1. Log in to your Web Governance account.
2. Select the domain that you want to work with.
3. Expand the left menu bar if the options are not visible
4. Click Site

Landing page

The dashboard has these fields:

• An +Add new check button

• Table columns:

  • Heartbeat check

  • Check site status

  • Current domain status

• Each row has two additional buttons:

  • An Action button

  • A See Details button

User actions

You can do these actions on the dashboard:

• Click +Add new check. For instructions, read Uptime Monitoring checkpoints.
• Click the icon next to a list item to navigate to the page.
• Check site status column indicators are:
  • Active (green dot)
  • Inactive (red dot)
• Current domain status indicators are:
  • OK (green dot)
  • Domain is not responding (red dot)
• Action: Click and select:
  • Edit
  • Remove checkpoint
• See Details: Click to navigate to the Details page.

Details landing page

This view displays more information about the domain uptime status. 

• The following actions are available:
  • Export: Click to do an export of the findings. If there are no incidents registered for the page in the selected date range, the export file will be empty. For instructions, read How to do an export.
  • Back to Uptime Monitoring overview: Return to the previous view.
  • Exemptions: Click for more information about the checkpoint exemptions. On the page you can do these actions:
    • Add new exemption
    • Table columns:
      • Start at
      • End at
      • Repeat
      • Part of downtime calculation: An X indicates that the selected row is not a part of downtime calculation.
      • Edit exemption: Click the gear icon to open the edit page.
      • Delete exemption: Click the trashcan to delete the exemption.
  • Actions (gear icon): Click to view the checkpoint information and make changes as needed.
    • Status (On or Off)
    • URL
    • Ping intervals: Use the arrow to select the ping interval: 1 minute or 5 minutes.
    • Response time notification (On or Off)

Below the chart, the system displays the following additional information about any outages that occurred in the selected timeframe:

• Start time: The moment a URL became unavailable.
• End time: The moment a URL returned to service.
• Duration: The total time of the last downtime event.
