Is 360-degree photography supported in the Acquia DAM?

When you’re looking to give online shoppers increased confidence in making a buying decision, along with more detailed information about products, and increase online sales, you may be looking to get 360-degree spin photography for those products. That’s where what are known as spinsets in the Acquia DAM (Widen) come in.

Spinsets are ZIP files that contain a series of PNG or JPG images of products. ZIP files of images can be uploaded to the DAM, then you can view and rotate the images and take further action on spinsets from search results and the Asset Digest, or in the Portals and Entries apps. Track how your 360° imagery is used in Insights.

Need help getting 360° images of your products taken before they’re uploaded? We have a partner organization, Snap36, that can help with that, or you can use special photography equipment like a turntable. Contact your customer success manager to be connected to Snap36.

Organize files and upload spinsets

After images are taken of your product - either by your team or Snap36 - and before uploading spinsets to the DAM, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Gather the files for 360° imagery into one folder. When you’re gathering files, follow the filenaming instructions below. (Snap36 can also help with filenaming while gathering images.)
  2. Save the folder as a ZIP file.

That’s it!

Upon upload, spinsets are identified based on the filenames of the images in the ZIP folder. When you view spinsets in the DAM, images are displayed in numeric order.

Because of the number of files included in the ZIP file, spinsets may take some time to upload. A 360° icon displays on previews for spinsets.

Filenaming instructions

Along with the filename, files in the ZIP must each include a unique number, a hyphen prior to the number, and an extension. Name them following either of these patterns:

  • filename-x.ext
  • filename-x-y.ext

Here’s more information about formatting of filenames:

  • They can include any character that’s supported in the DAM.
  • They do not need to be the same for all images.
  • x and y must be numerals, and leading zeros can be included.
  • The extension can be JPG, JPEG, or PNG, and the files in the ZIP can be a mix of JPGs, JPEGs, and PNGs.

Search for spinsets

In addition to using the quick search, you can find spinsets by refining your search results or using the advanced search.

Download and share 360° images

The original ZIP file of spinsets can be downloaded from the DAM. If you’d prefer spinsets to only be viewed, contact the DAM Customer Support team to have that set up.

Grab share links or embed codes for a spinset with viewer, a spinset thumbnail, or an asset download link from search results or the Asset Details page. Note that spinsets can be viewed from the Asset Digest, not the Asset Details page.

Spinsets are supported in branded share links and embed codes.

If downloading and/or sharing are enabled in a portal, spinsets can also be downloaded and shared from Portals.
