What are conversion formats?

Some file formats can be converted, meaning they can be changed to other file types and formats when you download assets or share assets. Each Acquia DAM site has its own set of conversion formats. Conversion formats that display when you download or share assets depend on your role. They're determined by DAM admins and set up by the DAM Customer Support team. See the list of supported file types and formats

Images can be converted into specific file size, DPI, color space, and file format. The maximum size for images is up to 65,500 px. Video files can be converted into a specific bitrate, frame rate, or pixel width and height. Assets can be converted to at least one format other than the original format.

Most document and image types (e.g. PSD, PNG, TIFF, JPG) can be converted to PDF. When requesting the conversion format, you will need to send the support team the desired DPI and size, similar to an image conversion.

Files do not convert into a higher resolution than the original file that has been uploaded. If the original file is 72 DPI, the file that is downloaded or shared will be 72 DPI. To determine the resolution of the original file, search for the asset and click the filename in the asset's thumbnail in search results. The asset's resolution will be in the File Info section on the Asset Details page.

Custom designed watermarks can be added to previews or to conversion formats or both previews and conversion formats.

Here's an example of what conversion selection looks like when downloading a single asset.

Unsupported file types and formats

Unsupported file types and formats can’t be changed to other formats and a preview will not be generated, but they can be hosted in the DAM and downloaded in their original format. You can upload alternate previews for unsupported file types.
