How do I delete metadata types?

To delete a metadata type, you will need to submit a request to the DAM Customer Support team. Before doing so, complete these steps to make sure the metadata type is no longer used in the Acquia DAM.

Check for assets assigned to the metadata type

  1. Perform an advanced search for the metadata type you want to remove.
  2. Select Edit on the asset card to change the metadata type for each asset individually. Or, to save time, export a CSV report of those assets and their metadata.
  3. In the report, change the metadata type you’re removing to another existing metadata type.
  4. Import this CSV using the metadata importer to assign these assets to a new metadata type.

If you have the Archive feature on, you will need to include archived assets in these steps. If assets are in a conflicted state, they must be resolved so no conflicts exist with the metadata type assigned at upload. Lost assets and assets in the pending delete queue that are assigned to this metadata type must be permanently deleted.

Update upload profiles

  1. Go to the Admin app.
  2. Select Upload profiles under Upload Settings in the left navigation.
  3. Check each upload profile. If a profile assigns assets to the metadata type you are deleting, select another metadata type.

Remove associated metadata fields

Remove any metadata fields that are associated with only this metadata type.

Delete the metadata type

The site may need some time to reindex and reflect the changes you’ve made.

Contact the DAM Customer Support team and ask them to delete the metadata type.

If you are unable to locate the asset preventing the deletion of the metadata type, there may be a problem in the database tables. Include this in your support ticket so our team can locate assets still associated with the metadata type.
