In the asset uploader, required metadata fields can be set as mandatory for uploaders to complete before they can move on with their upload. This is controlled by a global setting that admins can enable for their DAM. By default, this setting is turned off for existing sites and turned on for newly created sites.
Before making fields mandatory¶
Review which metadata fields are and are not currently set as required. Once you enable the Mandatory Required Fields in Asset Uploader setting, all fields that are set as required will be mandatory.
- Go to the Admin app.
- Click Metadata types under Search Settings.
- Select a metadata type, review the metadata fields, and make edits, as necessary.
- Repeat until you’ve reviewed all fields in all metadata types.
Enable mandatory fields¶
- Go to the Admin app.
- Click the Features page under Global Settings.
- Turn on the Mandatory Required Fields in Asset Uploader setting.
By default, required metadata fields will be split into a Required metadata section and Secondary metadata section.
You can disable this format and have metadata display in one section in the order they appear on the Metadata types page in the Admin app – with asterisks next to fields that are required.
To disable the sections:
- Go to the Admin app.
- Click the Features page under Global Settings.
- Turn off the Primary and Secondary Metadata Sections During Upload setting.
Customize permissions¶
Admins can make metadata fields mandatory for some user roles and not others. Say you wanted to make the metadata field “Photoshoot location” required for only photographers when they upload and no one else – you can do that.
- Go to the Admin app.
- Click Metadata types under Search Settings.
- Select a metadata type and find the right metadata field in the list.
- Under the Required field, select Permissioned.
- Select one or more roles, then click Save.
