How can I migrate assets to Acquia DAM?

You have three options for migrating assets to Acquia DAM from other systems.

Acquia Asset Migration Service

This service is done by hard drive or S3 Transfer. Check with your customer success manager or implementation consultant to see if your subscription package includes this option. Additional asset migrations are quoted separately.

Advantages

  • Migrate up to two terabytes of data to the DAM per migration.

  • Use the original filepath field to map your existing migration folder structure to help with metadata tagging. This is a searchable field and can be segmented by role.

  • Ability to map top-level folders to different upload profiles, which can automate several things, from adding categories, assigning global collections and default metadata.

  • Receive a report identifying duplicate assets before bulk upload. We do this through filename comparison. If the filenames of two assets match, we use pixel-to-pixel comparison to identify true duplicates.

  • Eliminate worries around upload time-outs and internet bandwidth.

  • Have a central point for gathering assets from different sources.

Considerations

  • This service is a good option for large file migrations, not smaller batches.

  • Drive migrations require longer timelines due to hard drive delivery and loading of assets into the DAM.

  • Your project team will need to do prep work, organization, and clean up before and after the migration. This involves removing duplicate filenames and legacy assets you don’t plan on hosting in DAM.

  • You might need to involve your IT team.

Asset uploader

The asset uploader feature is included in the DAM for all customers.

Advantages

  • Upload smaller batches of assets easily and quickly. No additional technology is needed.

  • Organize assets and add metadata during upload.

  • Upload assets in phases rather than all at once.

  • Allow other DAM users to upload.

Considerations

  • The process is manual.

  • The speed of uploads varies depending on internet bandwidth.

  • The asset uploader has a two-hour security time-out for large batches.

Upload via FTP

The FTP Upload feature is included in the DAM for all customers.

Advantages

  • Migrate assets using FTP tied to a specific DAM user account.

  • Run large batch uploads in the background. FTP is less manual than the asset uploader, so you can “set it and forget it” when uploading.

Considerations

  • The process could require installation of an FTP client, unless you already have one on your computer.

  • You might need to involve your IT team.

  • Company firewalls sometimes block FTP clients or time out FTP connections that are left open.

API integration

Native integrations can be purchased through Acquia.

Advantages

  • Assets and metadata are synced between platforms without manual downloading and uploading.

  • Customized trigger events can be set up to automatically upload assets to DAM.

Considerations

  • Integrations take time to set up.

  • Integration workflows often take extra planning and process changes for DAM users.

  • You might need to involve your IT team.
